Savvy August 2020

Theme

Okay so my wedding is in August 2020, it seems so far away but it's coming faster everytime I think about it. We have a theme for the wedding, we're doing a Speakeasy/ Roaring 20's style.
My dilemma: I would like for everyone to dress for the theme. Now of course it will be by their choice but it would be preferred. I dont want anyone feelings uncomfortable and I'll probably have some props that people can use if they want to add some jazz to their outfit.. but I feel like most people wont dress up. I'm not really sure what to do here. And should I give the heads up in the Save the Dates when they go out? Maybe a little note or something with websites to look at outfit ideas. Any advice helps!

I would for sure find a way to let everyone know the dress code ahead of time so they have time to find that specific style of dress. You for sure won’t be able to force people to wear it that style per say, but you can indicate that this will be your theme. This would be a know your crowd situation. Making save the dates and invitations all in that theme will help people get in the mood as well as if you make a wedding website for them to visit. If you don’t think your crowd will go for it, might be better to pick a different theme or be okay with the fact people won’t be dressing up for it in that way.

My wedding is also August 2020. Our theme is Grease. So everyone is dressing up from the 50's

We had a 50’s/60’s local reception where everyone dressed up. We put attire request on our invites, included a photo collage with the invite for ideas, and more photos on our website. We put basic ideas: cocktail dress for ladies, tux or suit for gentlemen listed optional accessory ideas like pearls & gloves for ladies.

I said semi formal is preferred, if possible. So you can totally say themed attire is preferred if possible
