Theft at weddings

Has this crossed anyone's mind? Is your card box secure or will someone be watching it? I've seen card boxes with little locks or just slits so it would be hard to take cards out without causing a disturbance but what about those cute open chest/suitcase ones?

Sad to think you would have to worry about that on your wedding day but I guess that's how it goes.

I went to a wedding and the card box was stolen. They had it towards the door. I never heard of anything being stolen from a wedding until this. So please have someone keeping An eye on your stuff.

FH's childhood best friend is a GM. They made very different choices in their adult lives. The friend runs with a very rough crowd and is an addict and we don't keep in touch with him often. I am not excited about him being part of our day, but FH remains steadfast about extending friendship to him at every opportunity. I will be locking the card box and keeping track of all of our other valuables throughout the entire weekend. It's amazing how good people close to your family can do bad things when they get caught up in addiction. I would hope that he nor any guest at a wedding would steal, but I'm not foolish enough to think it can't happen.

I know this is an almost 2 year old thread, but its important to me so I figured I would comment. I hadn't worried about it initially, until I found out that my now ex-close friend who is also my ex-MOH had been stealing from not only myself (both cash and a credit card, which has been cancelled, she memorized the #s. The short of it is - I used to work with her, and I purchased things at that job. There we could have cards on file for memberships. She entered in my card for my membership after I left that job for a better opportunity, and then she rang up what I purchased and gradually I started getting charges from places she likes - not big chains either btw), but she also stole from at least 2 of my bridesmaids (she stole from one of them during my engagement party...that she helped plan btw. Apparently it was a cover to steal since I had mentioned I didn't want one, but she REALLY wanted to do it, there were other red flags for her that all of us caught onto, but it took us a while. Smiley sad ), and caught on camera stealing at shops around town.

Obviously, she is no longer invited to our wedding or in our house or anything. But we were already having a cardbox with a slit in it, now I'm even more elated about it. It's also made of wood and will be heavy, especially when filled (and not near the doors). Our venue has a great rep, however, I am ensuring that there will be a bit more security for our wedding (especially with the ex-MOH issue, she's also a pathological liar and might try to use a fake name to get in, she has done that around town as well), I don't want there to be any drama on my day.
