“The walk” current debate with my fh

on August 24, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 15
So - my husband and I are back and forth about how I walk down the aisle.. I have obviously been practicing up and down our hallway (yes wine is involved) lol —-

My sister just walked slowly down the aisle but I don’t know if I want to do that or the “step, pause, step, pause” my FH had no idea what I was talking about at first and now he’s back and forth about it too !!! What do you guys think ?

Traditinally, my family has always done the step, pause routine. I think I will follow suit. It gives every a chance to get a good look at you as you stop near them.

That’s what I think too.. the more I do it the more comfortable it feels yet awkward .. I guess I’ll have to keep trying them both out to see what I like more as the date gets closer— practice makes perfect!

I think the step-pause is just to make you slow down and not look like you’re racing down the isle. Its so easy to rush when you’re excited and nervous. I’ve seen brides not do the step-pause, and sometimes they look like they’re running to get it over with and leaves no time for pictures. It only feels awkward now because you’re thinking about it so much. Your fiancé probably didn’t know about that because the men don’t usually walk in that way, and they also don’t usually pay that much attention at weddings.

I recommend the step-pause-step routine because it helps you slow down and makes you look more graceful as you walk down the aisle. This is my one "regret" about my wedding. After I watched my wedding video, I hated how I walked down the aisle because I didn't slow down enough for my liking. The first bridesmaid who walked down the aisle did the step-pause-step routine and she looked so graceful, like she was gliding down the aisle. Because the dress is so long you don't see the feet doing this "weird" step but instead it looks like you're gliding. It will feel awkward as you're doing it but you will look great.

I just walked slow! My husband though, walked down the aisle with his dad and brother, and watching the video I was so annoyed because they practically RACED down the aisle 🤦🏻‍♀️ You could barely see them. The photographer got exactly one photo because they were gone so quickly. Ugh. Just walk slow. Lol.

You don’t have to step pause, just walk extremely slowly as this is a moment you want to savor!

Thank you! I’m going to have to take a few deep breathes before hand so I’m not so anxious 😉😬

I just walked slow . I haven’t seen the step-pause-step move in probably at least a decade, so to me it feels outdated now.

Also to be completely honest it was such a whirlwind moment walking down the aisle, I think trying to focus on an irregular walking pattern would’ve really taken me out of the moment — I’d be paying more attention to my steps and pauses instead of taking everything in, and taking it all in was so wonderful! You don’t need the distraction Smiley winking

Thanks for this post. I never thought about it until now. Do you know what song you are walking to? Because now that I have thought about it, I’m going to play my song and practice to it. I will probably have my best friend record it with her phone so I can see how fast I’m going and adjust.
