The rings... who has the rings?!

Desiree, on October 15, 2019 at 6:37 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

Brides,

My FH and I talked last night, and decided on no kids for our wedding... This really wasn't a huge deal, there really would have only been maybe 2-4 kids there, not even. But 1 of them was supposed to be the ring bearer. We decided, for many reasons, no kids at all though.

So now, who brings the rings?! The only thing I could think is the officiant could have them in his pocket and ready to go.

What are you guys doing? Is there a tradition or idea that I'm missing?

The best man does. At least that’s who we had carry ours.

I’m debating on either FH holding them in his pocket or my mom. I’m still having a ring bearer but I can’t trust him to actually hold the box with the real rings in it and not throw it somewhere lol. 😂

Your best man could hold them, or like you said, the officiant could have them ahead of time.

Back in the old days (and even now), it was the Best Man who held onto the rings until it was time to exchange them. But you can do whatever works best for you. You could have the MOH hold FHs ring for you, while BM holds your ring for FH. Or you could certainly ask your officiant. Even nowadays, I've known brides who told me they didn't give the ring bearer the actual rings, because he was a small child and/or toddler, and they just didn't want to risk losing the rings. But having a ring bearer can be such a cute thing for a wedding. So, the little guy is just for show, the rings are actually being held by a responsible adult. lol

The best man, the best man and MOH, or the officiant. Even when people have ring bearers, it’s rare that they actually carry the rings. Our officiant will hold ours.

I’ve never seen a ring bearer actually carry the rings! Usually best man or officiant.

Best man and MOH pretty commonly hold the rings until the rings are needed for the ceremony.

We didn't have any ring bearers so we had each member of our wedding party hold onto it

Even with a ring bearer, the best man is still the one who usually carries the rings. There is no way I would have entrusted a few thousand dollars worth of wedding bands with our 3 year old ring bearer. We had our rings in a little custom made ring box and the best man held it inside his suit jacket.

Groom can have them in his pocket. Or the best man or officiant can hold them.

Thank you all so much for your responses. Smiley smile I like the idea of Best Man holding my FH ring, and my MOH holding my ring. But I won't have these individuals standing up there... I might just have the officiant holding the rings, since he will be up there. Smiley heart

I've seen very few wedding where the children actually had the rings (my son was my RB, but I wasnt giving a 1 year old the hardware). My brother - the best man- had the rings in his pocket and handed them to the officiant when it was that time.
