The Right Wording

Liz, on July 3, 2020 at 8:03 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
So my fiance and I are having an elopement ceremony at a venue where only 25 people are allowed due to COVID. Afterwards, we are planning on having a slightly larger family gathering (still within gathering limits) that's a BBQ at our house. I'm just trying to find better wording on those announcements other than "Post-wedding" or "Post-ceremony" celebration. It's not a reception because we're saving that for our bigger wedding next year. Thoughts?

I would still call it a reception because that’s what it is. It’s fine to have two receptions.

I'm planning something like this as well. So far, all of our friends and co-workers who aren't in our top priority list (50 guest maximum) have been very understanding and just want to wish us well. We just wrote "BBQ celebration" and it has gone over well.

I would definitely still call it a reception as it still qualifies as one! Maybe you can always say it’s a friends and family gathering to celebrate your marriage.

I understand you don't want to call it a reception because you are having a bigger one next year. This is another way you could invite your guest for that BBQ. best wishes!Smiley laugh
