The one that got away: dress edition!

Yam, on September 6, 2019 at 11:09 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19
So years ago I was completely obsessed with this dress, Grace by Amy Michelson. By the time I was ready to go dress shopping Amy Michelson had left the industry and all the preowned dresses had a huge markup because “You can’t even order this dress anymore” so after months of waiting for a reasonable price I finally gave up.
I still think it’s a gorgeous dress! The train is breathtakingly beautiful. First two photos is Grace! Last photo is my dress(mine is strapless though)

At least my dress has an interesting train too! I reason with myself I wouldn’t be comfortable with a halter exposing so much of my chest anyway, I just wanted the skirt. But Grace is still the one that got away!

Any similar stories? Any dress that slipped through your fingers? How does it differ from your actual dress? Do you still think about it sometimes?

My "One That Got Away" was the alfred angelo Disney collection!!!! I was OBSESSED!!!! My best friend (now my MOH) and I used to spend hoooouuurrs on the website fantasizing about wearing those dresses one day.

And then I get engaged and alfred angelo had filed bankruptcy 2 years prior. I scour the web to find that ONE place bought out the last inventory of dresses...but it's in England.

So now, mostly because of budget reasons, I'm wearing my mother's dress. So it's a happy little ending, but I'm still sad about those princess dresses.

Those are interesting ! There was one I saw online at Lulu's so I knew it was legit and the price was amazing and it was everything I imagined in a dress I thought I wanted but for some reason I just didn't go with it. I'm glad I didn't because I ended up trying one on of the same silhouette and style and it didn't work on me at all aha but it was one of those things I was surprised I passed over

Oh I loved them too! My favorite was the glittery Cinderella dress. I was shocked Alfred Angelo went out of business, that brand has been around forever.

That’s a really good point! I was in love with the photo and never got to try on that silhouette, it likely wouldn’t have looked good on me anyway. You were wise to try on that style before making any dress commitment.

This dress didn't necessarily get away but it's what I thought i wanted. I tried it on and it didnt give me the feeling I was hoping for. Instead ended up choosing a lace Aline instead that is much more puffy than what I wanted originally.

More like you got away! It’s a pretty dress though. I owned a lace form fitting dress too but had dress regret and sold it, wanted something puffier.

It was very pretty and I loved how I looked in but it didn't feel very bridal even with a veil on too. So I asked to see something bigger and that was it.

I was head over heels for this tulle ballgown, but my parents didn't like it at all compared to the one I ended up getting! Sorry for the blurry photo - mom took it Smiley laugh

It truly was fluffy! I love ballgowns, but that one was a bit too fluffy for me!

I saw the Cinderella dress from AA mentioned and had to look it up. That's such a stunning dress!

    Maloree by Maggie Sottero.

I stumbled onto this dress when helping my friend pull inspo for her wedding years ago. This is before I even met my now-husband. Not surprisingly, the dress had been discontinued by the time I started planning my own wedding. I did not want to look on the secondhand market (concerns about not being able to try it on first), but ended up with a dress from the same designer. Go figure! 🤣

Put this dress on and teared up. Though no one else liked it. haha

In the end I chose a dress that's very different, but actually the same designer. It just wasn't dramatic enough for my wedding. (ended up buying a ball gown I love)

    Still think about it

Oh I love me a Maggie! My afterparty dress is a Maggie(Isadora Ann) and I love Jade but I don’t have the body for the back of that dress. Like 90% of brides don’t! But man it’s beautiful

Ooh I didn’t even know about that one! I think that’s ver 2? I really loved the ver 1, it had glitter in the tulle like Cinderella’s dress and I believe for a limited time it could be ordered in that powdery blue color

I'm pretty sure that's my dress! We made some changes to it. The fitting took forever!!! Like 3-4 hours and a million pins. It has so many layers that I didn't notice when I picked it out lol
