The "little" things

Evren, on February 17, 2021 at 9:09 AM Posted in Planning 1 10

I'm going over budget, and the budgeting tool here on WW is immensely helpful - however, at a glance I already feel there are "little" things missing that could add up quickly. Example: I didn't see anything in the budget tool for a guest book, which tends to be a staple item at weddings, and I've seen those often going for $50 or more.

The "invitations" section also wasn't very detailed (it just said "other stationery"... like what? Programs? Place cards? Escort cards? I added these in myself because otherwise I wouldn't have remembered what I included in "other stationery"... or I'll completely forget them until a week before.)

What have you come across in planning that you'd consider a "little" thing, that you may not have originally thought about in your budget?

Hotel bags for guests using the hotel block. Getting ready outfits for bridesmaids. All the vendor tips for the day of. Food/drinks for everyone during hair and makeup. Signs/ decor. Card box. Bubbles/confetti for after ceremony.

Fun/cheap guestbook idea! Buy a jenga set and have guests write on a piece.

Oh wow, I forgot about all of those except the tips! And I need to look carefully at the send-off toss stuff, because our prospective venue doesn't allow loose flower petals or sparklers...

Hotel welcome bags, vendor tips, guest book, ceremony decor, reception decor, ring bearer/flower girl signs to hold, marriage license fee, breakfast/lunch costs for wedding party (for while getting ready), vow books, and I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Hi, I know everyone has a different picture of how they want there wedding to look. I think other stationary is like stamps? I’m not to sure on that myself, haha. For wedding programs I went to Shutterfly had pictures printed of the wedding programs. Then I went to the dollar tree and got clear frames. I’m going to sit one at every table. My thinking is not every person needs one. That can add up fast and they are getting thrown away. Your immediate family and grooms family may keep them. I’ll include a picture above. Now I crossed out the names of the people in my wedding. However that may help you get a vision of what you could do. You could also have a board at the ceremony with the order of events too. Place cards check Hobby Lobby they have 40% off too most times. The "little" things 1

SR gave a great list! Also pay attention to the small print in your contracts and all those little hidden fees. They can really add up quick! For example, on-site hair and make up artists may tack on mileage fees and require you to pay for their parking. Venues and caterers often times charge administrative fees and taxes which are not included in the initial costs they present to you, which can add up to thousands of dollars! Also don’t forget to add all of the vendors you will need to provide meals to (officiant, DJ, photographers, videographers, etc.).

Also I personally am not doing a guest book. I just know it’s not something I’m going to look back on. However I am having a buffet at my wedding so each table we are going to get a picture with and then have them be dismissed to get food after the picture. That way we won’t have a huge line at the buffet table, and we will get to actually talk and greet everyone who came to our wedding.

However if you do want a guest book, I agree with Laura with the janga blocks. Or something practical you’d see like at one point when I thought I needed a guest book I was going to get a wood slab and have everyone sign it. Then use it to sit a vase with flowers on after in my home.

Favors if you choose to do those and the supplies for said favors (box, bag, ribbon). Various signs you may want. I found those added up pretty quickly and I don’t have many!
Your accessories, bridal party accessories, groom accessories.
Gifts for your parents if you are doing that. Gifts for the wedding party.

I agree that signs add up quickly! Nice card boxes are also pretty pricey. A couple repeats from PP but my list would include your jewelry and hair pieces, garter, cake knife, thank you cards specifically for your bridal shower, gift to your FH if you're doing that, wedding night lingerie if you choose, ring box (we wanted one that fits both our rings)
