Oh man. We own a home! We're spending the next few weeks spackling, sanding, changing locks, painting, moving. All that fun stuff.
It's been a wild ride!
We have been looking at homes online for about a year. But I refused to buy a house with him til we were engaged.
We found a house we really liked in July. It went off the market in January, and we were kinda bummed.
We got engaged at the end of February, started our loan application 2 days later, and the house we had been looking at went back on the market 6 days after our engagement.
We turned in our loan paperwork, and the loan company's computers crashed. It took 7 business days to get preapproved instead of 3 days.
We FINALLY got preapproved and put in an offer. We accepted the seller's counter offer so she would "have money for any repairs in the inspections".
Our first inspection was the septic tank. The house totally failed, and the inspector recommended connecting to the sewer. For approximately $4K.
The lady selling the house decided she would rather have the bank foreclose on the house than connect the house to the sewer system. 🤦♀️
I was so sad, because it had an amazing back yard. We were gonna try to talk the lady out of it, but apparently she flipped and was just being ridiculous.
So we wrote up cancelation papers. And she refused to sign them for over a week. She finally drew up her own cancelation papers, that said the exact same thing our said. We signed because we didn't care which version we signed, we just wanted our earnest money back.
In the meantime, we found a house we loved. We liked it even better than the first house. We put in an offer on it. It had been on the market for 9 months. We were the first offer on it, and the sellers almost refused to respond to our offer because they thought it was way too low. (It wasnt much lower than their current list price.)
Their realtor had to convince them to negotiate. We negotiated. We had our inspection and it went well.
Meanwhile, the bank was in the process of approving us for the loan. And they had to call my job, my accountant, needed pay stubs, tax forms I've never heard of. On and on and on.
But when we got our appraisal back, the house appraised for less than the first offer we put in.
Miraculously, the sellers agreed to the price.
This whole process has been an experience. And I am exhausted.
Saturday, my fiance moves in. And I'll move in after we buy a bed. Lol.
I'm just so glad we got this amazing house. Finally!
