The Home Buying Roller Coaster Ride is Over!!!

Mandi, on May 23, 2019 at 12:57 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10
Oh man. We own a home! We're spending the next few weeks spackling, sanding, changing locks, painting, moving. All that fun stuff.

It's been a wild ride!

We have been looking at homes online for about a year. But I refused to buy a house with him til we were engaged.

We found a house we really liked in July. It went off the market in January, and we were kinda bummed.

We got engaged at the end of February, started our loan application 2 days later, and the house we had been looking at went back on the market 6 days after our engagement.

We turned in our loan paperwork, and the loan company's computers crashed. It took 7 business days to get preapproved instead of 3 days.

We FINALLY got preapproved and put in an offer. We accepted the seller's counter offer so she would "have money for any repairs in the inspections".

Our first inspection was the septic tank. The house totally failed, and the inspector recommended connecting to the sewer. For approximately $4K.

The lady selling the house decided she would rather have the bank foreclose on the house than connect the house to the sewer system. 🤦‍♀️

I was so sad, because it had an amazing back yard. We were gonna try to talk the lady out of it, but apparently she flipped and was just being ridiculous.

So we wrote up cancelation papers. And she refused to sign them for over a week. She finally drew up her own cancelation papers, that said the exact same thing our said. We signed because we didn't care which version we signed, we just wanted our earnest money back.

In the meantime, we found a house we loved. We liked it even better than the first house. We put in an offer on it. It had been on the market for 9 months. We were the first offer on it, and the sellers almost refused to respond to our offer because they thought it was way too low. (It wasnt much lower than their current list price.)

Their realtor had to convince them to negotiate. We negotiated. We had our inspection and it went well.

Meanwhile, the bank was in the process of approving us for the loan. And they had to call my job, my accountant, needed pay stubs, tax forms I've never heard of. On and on and on.

But when we got our appraisal back, the house appraised for less than the first offer we put in.

Miraculously, the sellers agreed to the price.

This whole process has been an experience. And I am exhausted.

Saturday, my fiance moves in. And I'll move in after we buy a bed. Lol.

I'm just so glad we got this amazing house. Finally!

Congrats! That's so exciting and I am so jealous. We're looking and just can't find the right place yet. Mostly because I'm being really picky. I'm so happy for you, but that really was a roller coaster.

Congrats!!!!! I recently went through the same thing with my fiancee! I've cried more over house hunting stress than the wedding stress! Our first one was the septic too... it had an in room master bathroom with a Jacuzzi tubSmiley sad but they refused to fix their septic or come down on price... and the sewage was literally filling up the back yard. Ugh. Just like you we found something that will be perfect for our family and are closing on the 5th though ! We leave for FL for our wedding on the 16th and plan on moving in right when we get back! Congrats again!

We closed on our house in November 2017! We started process in October and closed in November. I remember telling my realtor and FH I just want to be in the house by Thanksgiving and Christmas. I wanted to be in our first home together by the holidays. That month of waiting, gathering documents etc...was soooo stressful! But, the day we closed it was a piece of cake. I couldn't believe how easy that step was. I was like WHAT are we done, are you serious! It was legit one of the best days of my life. I can't believe we are nearing 2 years in the house. We have already made so many memories. Congratulations on your new beginning and new home. Enjoy and soak up every minute of it.

Our first one had a jacuzzi too!

I cant believe they wouldn't fix that! Our bank literally would not lend with that issue. People are crazy.

    I'm glad you found something!!
