The Groom in a Tux - White Bow Tie or Black Bow Tie??

Shannon, on May 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hi!

So the groom/groomsmen will all be in black tuxes. The groomsmen will have black bow ties. My fiancé likes the idea of separating himself a bit from the groomsmen and he is a big fan of the white bow tie, as shown below:

Do you prefer white bow tie or black bow tie with a black tux?

Any insight or experience in what helped your decision? He prefers the white, but I think I prefer the black because it's more classic. He would be happy with either and ultimately will let me choose, but I also want him to be happy and confident. Thanks so much!!

If he wants the white I'd let him wear it. You aren't wearing the same dress as your BMs so why shouldn't he get to be a little (tiny, slightly) bit different from his guys?

My personal preference would be black, but it's your FH's outfit, and if he really wants to wear the white tie, then that's what he should wear. It should be his choice.

My fiance is wearing a black tux with white vest and purple tie that is a match to the vest the groomsmen who are wearing the purple. The half groomsmen are wearing the blue and other half are in purple

I really like how the white bow tie stands out against the others with black, so I think he should definitely go for that look!

So I like them both. The white bow tie is nice because he does stand out....but.... I feel like you don’t really notice the bow tie because it blends in with the shirt, at least in the picture you posted it’s very hard to notice the Whit bow tie. What color are your bridesmaids wearing? Maybe he can match them or match the color of your bouquet

I say black because it's hard to see the white in pictures. Although in theory white is nice!

The white bow tie definitely stands out! It speaks Groom and not groomsman to me.

I agree that the bow tie almost gets lost in the shirt. That's an issue I know that we'll have also because the photo I included is similar editing style as our photographer! I think the only option besides white will be black, we have lots of other colors going on with the bridesmaids and flowers so I don't want him in a colored tie Smiley sad But thanks for the input!!

    HI Shannon,

The color of the tie traditionally denotes formality- white being the most formal for men's evening suiting. His confidence will come from being able to choose. Smiley winking

When I read this originally I thought white for sure but when I saw the picture, it looked like he wasn’t wearing a bow tie. Could you maybe do an ivory one so that it’s not the exact same color as the shirt? I like the concept of doing a different color but he ends up looking less formal because it looks like there’s no bow tie from a distance.

Hey Shannon! I really love the white bow tie; it definitely allows him to stand out in an timeless way! Have you all decided on what he'll wear?
