The Great Ceremony Bench vs Chair Debate of 2011

Audra, on April 15, 2011 at 1:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

My FH and my family think that our ceremony would be perfectly fine with the free benches the park provides that are hunter green (not one of our colors), has rusted feet (I know biased), and can maybe seat 4 people.

I want to rent wood folding chairs at .80 a piece for 140 people. The rental company delivers and picks up the chairs for $50. My FH and his groomsmen can set up the ceremony. It'll cost money for sure but I think would look more stylish.

At the risk of becoming bridezilla my family thinks I'm crazy for wanting wood chairs instead of free benches. I like the look. Feedback? Please help this debate lol

How tight is the budget? the chairs look a lot better, but if that meant I'd have to skimp somewhere else in the budget, I don't know if would. If you have the money then go for it

Can they even move the benches? My concern would be where they are located. You typically can't move those things, and are there enough for 140 people? No more than 3, maybe 4 people can sit on those benches. That has you moving over 40 of them! I doubt the park even has that many!

As far as the look, who cares? But yeah, rent the chairs.

However, I'd see how much it costs to have the rental company set them up. It would be alot to ask of your FH and his groomsmen the day off. Do you really want them getting all sweaty too? But that would take them a good hour plus of hard work...

Either get friends (not groomsmen and NOT the groom), or hire people!

The benches aren't nailed down. In fact, the office said they're free to use. There's plenty of them. Its a DNR Historic battlefield park. I don't know how to go about hiring people. Its not like my FH is a little league coach and we can ask his team (saw that in a wedding mag) and anyone I trust will be there. My father and his friends would do that BUT my father would be with me so I guess I could ask his friends. If it comes down to it; I'll set up my own stupid chairs LOL (I'm very stubborn)

It's less than $200 for the chairs, go with the chairs if that is what you want. I'm specifically renting benches because that is what I want - to each our own right?
