The First Dance

Is anyone else shy and not dancing at your wedding? Me and my fiancé are both uncomfortable with dancing in front of people so we’re not going to do it. Does anyone have any activities in mind to replace it instead?

I’m so shy and dreading the first dance myself. My FH is an entertainer at heart so he’s ready lol. I’m just gone to grit my teeth for those few minutes. Good luck

We aren’t doing a first dance either- or any spotlight dances for that matter (i.e., father-daughter, mother-son, anniversary, etc.). We don’t plan to do anything in place of it though. I don’t think anyone will notice the absence of them, and putting something in its place may just draw attention to it.

We are not doing a first dance but decided to do an anniversary dance. That way we are out there for a very short time dancing and we will get our guests up. You could always do something like the shoe game if you want to entertain your guests without dancing, but it's also fine if you don't want to do anything. Choose what you are comfortable with and will make you happy at the end of the day.

Hear me out: first game. You could have a giant connect four or tic-tac -toe or even jenga game. You could have a light first game as a married couple and guests can also play the games later.

We didn't want a first dance either, but we did a private one because our videographer wanted footage of us dancing. So we went inside while the guests were outside having cocktail hours and the DJ just put on a random song. We are happy with how the pics and video turned out.

You don't really have to do anything to replace it. You could do something fun like the shoe game, but that also puts people's attention on you so it depends. You could also have your parents or best man/MOH do a quick welcome speech before dinner is served.

Yes. the dance picture looks excellent. Nicer than if there was a crowd.

We were looking at learning a choreographed dance. We both are introverts but still wanted to do some traditional reception activities. Others have mentioned that the dance lessons have become a fun way to have as part of date night. Also, some of these dances that people have shared make it look like fun -- but you don't even have to get it all right -- just have fun.

This is actually a really good idea I love it! It’s kinda mine and my fiancés thing to play games every date night so I feel like this would be very fitting for our wedding! Im just not sure where I could get something like that and have it fit the theme to our wedding.

I agree with this. It's completely fine not to dance and you don't need anything to replace it.

Amazon is your friend. you can get all of them in a neutral wood so it should work for most themes.

We took lessons and it helped me soooooo much! I was dreading the first dance. But, 12 lessons later and I felt confident enough that even if we screwed our routine up, it would still be fine. It gave me so much confidence. If you can't or don't want to take lessons... just skip the first dance! You can do whatever you want to do at your wedding. Honestly, no one will question you. We skipped a lot of "traditional" things and no one noticed. Oh, and everyone LOVED our dance :-)
