The dress won't zip!

Amber, on March 29, 2017 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I purchased my wedding dress back in early Feb at the size of the sample I had on. I expressed concern to my stylist about how this dress was prob a bit more stretched out & wondered if I should go up a size to be safe. She convinced me not to. The dress has come in and it's at home - no one had me try it on when I picked it up.

In the last month, I've had some issues with my diet. Some general overeating and things. My MOH and I were visiting another branch of the store I got my dress at, & I'd asked if they'd let me try on my dress if they had it in my size there. They did! They let me get myself into it, and then the consultant came in to help zip me up.

And it wouldn't zip up enough at all. She had to put me in a strapless bra to clip it & it looked ridiculous. Same size as before. Same size I ordered. So now I'm panicked. Wedding is fall 2018 so I have time to lose some weight. I still adore the dress but damn. My original stylist REALLY had me in the dress. IDK what to do

As you said you have time to loose weight. Try not to stress. Each dress is made slightly different. I would try yours on to be sure. You may be fretting over nothing.

Your wedding is over a year away don't get to excited yet. If it was this fall I would say panic. But take it to a seamstress and see what she can do about letting it out usually they can an inch or two.

Replace the back with a corset if it's a huge concern. My MOH did that with hers at her wedding about 2 years ago, because she has pcos and has a really bad handle on her weight. It turned out great and helped her not worry so much about dieting and such.

No need to worry about this now when your wedding is a year and a half away. Also, no need to lose weight (unless you were planning of course). The dress can always be taken out a little.

The stylist in the new store suggested swapping the sizes, but she made it seem like I'd be able to do that BEFORE the dress came in. My dress came in pretty early and I already took it from the store. My mom's advising me to not panic so hard and to give it a try on in a few months, see how it goes. If all else fails, when I make my first Alterations appointment I may have to discuss sizing if it's still not working for me.

Seriously, take a deep breath. This is not worth worrying about now. You have SO much time. Just start watching your diet and see how the dress fits a year from now.

    I recommend

1- Breathe! Do not stress. You are awesome, you have (or will have) a game plan.

2- see if you can exchange the dress. That way you could have a back up

3- start working out and eating right. Try not to diet. Dieting sucks and it is not really a long term and in the end you will be much happier if you instill reasonable healthy habits.

Girl. You have a year and a half. Change your diet and get moving. I gained 25lbs of relationship weight. I'm not stressing yet.

You have so much time to get that dress to zip. Just eat healthy. You can do it!

If it's from DB, you should be able to exchange it for the right size! Especially since it was the consultant's mistake and not yours. It only took one month for that one to come so I'm sure the exchange would be there in no time. If it has not been altered yet and still has tags on, an exchange should be easy. I would advise sizing up even if you plan to diet more just because I did not do that and I never ended up losing the extra weight so I had to let my dress out. Mine would zip but it was tight. It turned out fine but it was super stressful. And since yours isn't zipping at all, it may have just been a sizing issue. Just remember there's nothing wrong with you or your body!

You are all great. It was a DB dress! Thanks everyone for talking me down from the ledge. I've been actively trying to make better choices w/ eating this week. Thusly, I'm down around 5 pounds and have been wanting to lose weight anyway. I struggle w/ sticking to these things but I'm confident this will work out.

Wait have you even tried on your own dress yet? You said no one had you try it on when you picked it up, and you're going off the one you tried on in the store.

Either way, like everyone said you have plenty of time to resolve this! More than likely you should be able to exchange your dress at DB if your dress doesn't fit you. I wouldn't be worried Smiley smile

This happened to me. Ask for a size exchange. They did it for me and I almost cried with happiness.

Girl, you have over a year and a half to lose the weight! I really wouldn't worry too much. Just drink a lot more water and be more mindful of what you eat/how much/cut out the junk

I'd wait until July to really worry about this. I know that's easier said than done, so for right now just look up different options that you have for exchanging or altering Smiley smile Don't make any alterations for a long time though, because if you end up wanting to swap it they probably won't let you.
