"The Couple That Prays Together Stays Together"

The Bride, on July 20, 2019 at 11:11 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 1 18

I've been told that the most intimate thing a couple can do together is to pray. My husband and I are both Christians and pray together daily. We also enjoy reading the bible together and breaking down its interpretation. During our wedding, my mother-in-law said an amazing prayer over our marriage in lieu of the champagne toast. We also had a private scripture reading where we read a bible scripture to one another that we thought best related to our future marriage.

Do you and your partner share the same religious beliefs? Do you two pray together? Why or why not? Will you be incorporating prayer at your wedding? If so, how?

Is it a conscious choice not to pray together? Or did it just never naturally happen?

We share the same beliefs but we let life get in the way and for awhile we sifted away from our usual bible studies and praying together. We are working on getting back to doing our chapter readings together at least.

I think I remember you sharing that in another discussion. Being an atheist means you don't believe in Gods right? Do you say positive affirmations for your life together?

I'm happy that the two of you desire to get back to reading the bible together. I think it makes couples closer.

Not sure what positive affirmations would be outside religion because I've only ever heard them in prayer. But we try to pick something nice from our day to focus on.

We don't pray together. We have similar spiritual beliefs but do not feel organized religion is for everyone. She wants to incorporate bible passages into the ceremony and I said I would be willing to have one in there.

I agree that it's not for everyone.

I Feel that it is another saying to promote one group over the other. So my fiancé and I are atheist we don’t pray. We Do not believe in God. So then we are not going to stay together?

I don't think the saying promotes one group over another, a lot of groups pray. Also, just because you are apart of a particular group does not mean you pray together.

This is the feeling I always get when I see this phrase and so it always leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

But if the couples that pray togather stay together. What about the couple that does not pray together?

It's just a saying, it does not mean your marriage will end in divorce because you and your spouse don't pray. A lot of articles claim that when couple's pray together they communicate more often and are happier. However, we know that every couple sets their own standards and circumstances for success. What works for one does not necessarily work for all.

We don’t usually pray together but if we are with his family we will. He’s an LDS member and I am not, nor plan on ever being. But, we respect each other so much and don’t have problems with it at all!

It's always great when your differences don't interfere in your love.
