The Budget Breakdown - va and 100 Guests

Emily, on September 15, 2020 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi all,

When I was planning I was always looking for an actual detailed budget from someone who tracked their expenses for their wedding - and I never did find one. I'm hoping to fix that for some of you.

I've separated out my budget spreadsheet - total budget was $25,000 (funded by my father) and we ended up at $24,896. I'm sure there's some odds/ ends in there that would take us up to $25k. Virginia - 100 Guests The summary sheet as totals by category (paper vs. rings, etc.) and the individual line items are pulling from the "List" tab.

Some FYIs:

- Our venue (Historic Jordan Springs) was all-inclusive, with a minimum 100 guest commitment. This is why we didn't end up saving any due to COVID changes with 56 guests. It was still a beautiful venue and the service and hassle free nature was ideal for us.

- We did not do a lot of "extras" that weren't important to us/ we didn't feel people would notice (and they didn't!) This includes flowers (no groom boutonnieres, no flowers on tables), no guest book, no real favors - we provided masks in baggies in a basket for those who needed them, but we brought home *tons*.

- I indicated in the "List" tab if I thought something was required, as in - if I could go back and was looking for the lowest cost version, would I get it again? Eliminating those would have saved us $1,800 - but we thought those gifts to our bridal party/ nicer wedding band were worth it.

I hope this helps some of you, or gives you a template for how you might track your budget!

Thank you for sharing! I see we are both fans of Google Drive Smiley laugh I've been trying to do similar to you of tracking basically everything FH and I spend on anything wedding related, my budget looks crazy because there are definitely things I didn't necessarily think about (like hair trial in addition to hair day of), but it has a little bit worked out because with COVID, I have been spending less on the day to day, so all those savings from my personal budget get put towards the wedding costs Smiley xd

Not a problem! Google Drive is my jam. Wedding planning started to feel like my day to day at work - my officiant friend wrote up his speech and I was "suggesting" all my edits, LOL.

I wanted to do a budget where it's *all* in there - like the first pair of wedding heels I bought that sucked and I had to buy a second, or the Spanx I thought were so important but they stressed me out so I didn't wear them.

Focus on what you'll both notice. No one mentioned anything about not having ribbons on the backs of ceremony chairs or missing signing a guest book -- if you don't care about it or it doesn't make your life easier on the wedding day, save that $$$!

I love your detail! I definitely agree to skip things that aren’t important to you, and I’d also add that many of the details that I stressed about didn’t matter to anyone either. I’ll try to do a detailed budget breakdown too if it’s going to help anyone.

Agreed - no one else knows "the plan" so they don't know what's missing or out of place.

I'm hoping this does help some brides that are like me - where people would go "my wedding cost $7k" or w/e and then you see the breakdown and you're like...so you wore used shoes? ...you didn't put stamps on your invites? ...your seating chart was free I guess? That might all have been true, but many times I'd call shenanigans - someone's $7k wedding is probably realistically a $9k wedding in true dollars and cents.

I know what you mean! When I first started researching I looked at budgets around $5k because that’s what we wanted to spend and kept wondering if they just skipped a bunch of stuff. I totally wish my stamps were free! I need to buy another book, I don’t have enough for all my thank you cards!
