The bride is bilking her friends

Just got clear evidence that the bride is bilking her bridal party by requiring we buy certain things and insisting she (not the MOH) collect the money and manage all the bookings and online orderings. From the start, I thought that was odd (like you MPH is an accountant and you've got a wedding to plan--why you wanna chase down 15 people to collect t-shirt money? Let your ladies worry bout that!)
Long story short, the bridal party starts complaining about the costs to the MOH. MOH asks the bride if they can take the stressful chore of collecting bachelorette $ and to have the guest list (She instructed the party on every aspect of the bachelorette party we are supposed to throw). Bride refused to relinquish control, so only she knows how much anything costs. So I made some calls and emails, and it turns out she is overcharging the bridal party by a lot and pocketing the rest of the money. I received clear evidence of this from repeated vendors who gave me the real prices. In the past, she "kept" some auction baskets and prize money that her guests were supposed to win at a wedding fundraiser. It's getting so shady I can't even see. To top it off, she's demanded presents for her bachelorette party too! (she's already had 3 parties, and the bridal shower in a few weeks is littered with uber expensive registry items).

I haven't shared this info with the rest of the ladies, but I'm fuming. Since when is it okay to bulk your friends? We'd be happy to help her afford this wedding if she asked instead of being deceptive

. Sorry just had to rant.

I'm in full agreement. I would say gently confront her first and give her the opportunity to explain herself. But if she can't, the other members of the wedding party deserve to know that they are being conned. I couldn't maintain a friendship with someone like that. I'm so sorry you're in this position, OP.

UPDATE: I dropped out of the wedding. I ended up confronting her in person, kept my cool and stuck to the facts. When all of her lies, refusals, and distortions were debunked, she had the gull to say that everyone does this but I wouldn't know because I never planned a wedding (been married 10 years though). She said she had a right to pad the costs to offset all the things SHE is doing for the bridal party (which so far includes buying us each a cheap bottle of wine when she asked us to be her maids, and some cheap jewelry to match at the wedding. I tried to explain that those were things SHE volunteered to buy and were not even necessary (futhermore, if u require all your maids to look the same with the same dress, shoes, accessories and hair dos, then you SHOULD cover at least one of those costs! The 50cent jewelry you bought online from China was the cheapest you could ethically get away with covering.)
In the end, I got called a selfish b%$#h and accused of trying to ruin her wedding. She then tried demanding i GIVE her the $200 bridesmaids dress I bought and altered so a replacement could wear it! I said no, and told her she is a toxic person, and I wish her well in her life and marriage but I refuse to stick around anymore.
I sent a short email to the other maids informing them that I have stepped down for "financial reasons", hoping to spare the bride some dignity by not disclosing the $25-$100 each she ripped them off for. Psycho bride quckly emailed the group telling them the "financial reasons" were THEFT and I had been stealing from them!!! I just forwarded the vendor emails to the group without comment and blocked them all from reaching me.
Her wedding is in a month and honestly I don't care if she has a mutiny on her hands. DONE.

HOLY CRAP! This is crazy. Girl, I am so glad you took the high road while still calling out her BS. I'm a big believer in the principle of sowing and reaping (aka karma) - she has sowed deception, mistrust, selfishness and theft. That harvest will not be a good look for her!

As they say "Bye Felica". I would not tolerate this behavior from her. I would bow out of being in her wedding tell her the truth about her dishonestly and keep it moving. I would also still send the rest of the bridal party the facts and let them decided how they would like to proceed. She needs to be held accountable for this behavior. Friends don't do this to people they care about. It is clear that she cares about no one but herself.

Good for you! She just sounds awful, trying to turn it around on you after being called out. I've been in half a dozen weddings, and never had a bride pad costs on anything. You definitely made the right decision! I hope the other BMs see the light, as well.

She left you no option but to expose her. What she was doing was bad enough but to slander you like that was unbelievable. Please let us know how this turns out.

Wow! That's terrible. I wonder if any of the other ladies have noticed or thought the same thing as you... Perhaps after it's all said and done you could talk to her privately and just let her know how her actions were being perceived and tell her you thought it was deceptive and just totally uncalled for. especially if you consider her a good friend and vice versa. Just wow!

Good for you!! I would have handled this in a WAY messier manor, I wouldn't have been able to keep my feelings at bay lol. Good on you for keeping your cool, doing what you need to do, and not dragging it out. You're better off without her and all that toxicity in your life.

Sorry I had only read the first two comments before commenting myself. THAT"S INSANE - I am so happy for you to stand up like that. She sounds delusional. What a waste of all that time and energy when she was being so toxic...

I'm so sorry you had to go through this! Not just financially but emotionally from some one who was supposed to be a friend. You did the right thing and you did it the best way possible. If she tried to set me up the way she tried to do you, I would have done exactly the same thing!

Uhm, how could YOU be stealing from the BMs when bridezilla was taking the $ from them herself? Yikes. Good luck to her FH!

A wedding fundraiser??? That sounds shady in itself! Charging for drinks at wedding too I suppose. I think you should opt out of the wedding festivities if you are dealing with a person who is deceitful. Why waste your time or money on such a person or event?

How did she explain that 'you were the thief stealing from them' when in fact she was in control of all the money?? Caught trying to make some cash at the expense of your friends is low. A wedding fundraiser is the lowest though. Do what you can afford if it means a courthouse wedding with a nice restaurant dinner after

This is a crazy situation. That chick is not a friend, she's a smooch and a leech, sorry, but true. I hope the other bridesmaids dropped out too. Makes me so sad for you that you invested time in her wedding for you guys to be treated this way, ripped off and then you were slandered. Just terrible...
