That one thing...

Fany, on September 9, 2019 at 11:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22
I’ve seen several posts mentioning how the groom says “whatever you want, dear...” to brides’ inquires and/or suggestions regarding the wedding planning.
My question is, what is the one thing that your groom absolutely cares about when it comes to the wedding?!

He has two. He wanted our save the dates to be magnets and instead of table numbers he wants to name the tables after places we have traveled together. Both completely reasonable if not somewhat random 🤣

Photographer, even though when picking he said everyone's pictures looked the same.
And cake. He doesn't even eat cake!

My husband only wanted a few things.
    1. Bowties for him and his groomsmen
    2. Red velvet cake
    3. Food themed socks
    4. A white suit jacket

My husband was super involved throughout and had opinions on everything which I’m guessing is rare from these forums.

We agreed on most things. The things we clashed on:

    1. Experimental or progressive metal (ugh idk what it’s called) during cocktail hour. No, mi vida, just, no. Nope. No. We settled on tango guitar pieces (music in general was lots of longggggg conversations)

    2. Forgoing cake for pie, cannolis, or flan. First I’m allergic to virtually all of his favorite pies. Cannolis and flan were just so far from what I always imagined and he just hates cake. We settled on coffeecake when it dawned on us that it was one of the few sweets we both love and could pass as a naked cake

DH was involved with nearly every decision.

We didn't clash often, but he almost never looked at the lists online/in the book. (I once nearly threw it at his head, because it was IN MY LAP and he started talking about how he didn't know what to do.)

He really wanted magnets for the STDs, but I dislike those. I asked him what people would do with them after the wedding, and also how much it cost, and he agreed to go with cards.

Our biggest problem became the ceremony. He wanted to get married in the Catholic Church, but I am not Christian. We gave it a go, we did precana, it was a disaster, the priest avoided us for 6 weeks and then told us no. That's had some fallout, but we did immediately agree on a civil officiant and had a beautiful ceremony at our reception venue.

Everything. Absolutely everything. He had just as many preferences as me regarding decor, food and music. The one thing he didn’t care about was his attire! He wanted a specific suit then...crickets chirp.
I rushed to get him a shirt and forced him to go try on shoes yesterday because we’re 2 weeks away! 😨 Luckily he’s all set now. I actually talked him in the car that it makes me feel bad he put all this thought into everything else except himself, he’s my groom and I want him to feel special too.

While FH has asked that I do anything and everything I want for our wedding, his one request is to have a religious ceremony. He is Christian and I'm non-religious and I had no problem with this. I know his faith is important to him and I'll always be supportive of that whether I agree or not!

He insisted on our date which made our engagement super long, wanted a dj, open beer and wine, and a bbq buffet. Plus the whole wedding itself when I wanted to go to the courthouse. But I have done all the planning for all of it with zero help from him. I’m just glad it’s finally all done.

The food and the music. That's what he said he wanted to be involved in and everything else was up to me.

The DJ, he wanted to have an awesome DJ who would keep everyone on the dance floor. Then he is just involved in general with planning; but for the most part he just says yeah that sounds good, unless it sounds to far out there and then he will say something lol.

He never says "whatever you want" he says "I don't care". lmao and we have been arguing about tux color. He wants light gray I want a darker one (at least medium) to match the fall season and theme of the wedding. I am pretty sure I'll get my way though. lol Otherwise, he wanted beef for dinner, his kind of beer he drinks, he picked having two photographers. There wasn't much else.

My FH wanted a few things..

    1. he wanted to choose the color the guys wear. (shirts and ties)

    2. he wants at least 1 of his favorite flavors in the cake

    3. if we are not doing the subaru idea on our cake, then we change our centerpieces to some form of mechanics

    4. he has a specific photo he wants to use for the RSVP cards

    5. to include 4 songs he has specifically chosen that MUST be played at the wedding

    6. he really wants to has a 'cake smash'

    7. and to take 10 days for our honeymoon after the wedding!

Food (all of it, including dessert (pies and doughnuts, yum!)), alcohol, music, his (and his GM's) attire were super important to him.

Venue we discussed and he toured with me (of course the one we toured with him on FaceTime was the one we ended up with lol), but he wanted me to have my favorite venue, regardless, and he liked what he saw on the phone. He also helped me pick our photographer, but again, wanted me to have my favorite.

He couldn't care less about flowers, table numbers, and general decor items, just wanted me to have what I wanted.

My fiance wanted input on food, cake, and music. Everything else was up to me because he knew I had the organization and skillset for it.
