Thanks Spring break

KM, on February 19, 2015 at 1:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I'm about to buy the tickets for us to fly from Nebraska to FL for the wedding, and was wondering why prices are twice as high the week of our wedding than they are any other time...then I was reminded about Spring break. Duh. FH has to fly home the day after the wedding and just that ticket will be $400...one way.

Awesome

Edit: I forgot which state I'm living in now apparently

Lesson Learned. Don't plan your wedding during spring break!

WOW! I don't know which airlines are in Nebraska but when I come in from DC its usually cheaper on Tuesdays and I would try Kayak as well as Southwest (if you have it). $400 one way is RIDICULOUS though. I feel for you though

@KM not flying on Tuesday, I meant to say its cheaper to buy on Tuesdays (that's when the prices drop). It sucks all around though

Flying has definitely gotten more expensive just overall. Its crazy how much a one week or a few days can make in the price of a flight ticket.

Crowell: We're just in the middle of so much crap that it really just hit us that we need to book them asap. I posted this before I looked at Southwest...they have a new set of "cheap flights" so this might not be so bad after all.

You're in Omaha, right? Check out flying out of Kansas City. I've had friends get flights for about half the cost flying out of Kansas City and it's only about a 2 1/2 hour drive. A bit of a hassle but if money is a big issue it can't hurt to just check it out.

See if airfarewatchdog.com has any deals? If SW doesn't work!

What about flying into an airport that isnt as desirable a spring break location and driving? I dont know florida all that well, but maybe something more inland that isn't anywhere near Orlando?

Lori: Kansas City was actually all I look at. Omaha airport is just outrageous. I'm actually flying out of Kansas City tomorrow to New Orleans.

L&G: all of the major Florida airports will be busy because they usually fly out to Mexico/tropical islands as well. Even if people aren't staying in FL for spring break, the airports are usually the go-to hub for other spring break destinations. I'm looking at flights from Kansas City to Tampa (one way). And then Jacksonville to Kansas City to get back home.

I feel your pain. We ran into this with our honeymoon. It was more than double to go the first week of March then to go any other week. That's what I get for being in law school and having to have my wedding at the start of my spring break.

We are in the same boat but with our hotel. We found out that our wedding weekend is the same as a Nascar race at Texas Motor Speedway, which is only 15 miles from our hotel. Rates went up $40 a night and every single one will be booked solid. Oh, did I mention the traffic? KILL ME NOW.

If you can, try to fly in and out of Orlando with Southwest.

Orlando is just an annoying drive. It's 4 hours from the venue and 4 hour from Tampa where half my decor is sitting at a friends house.
