Thanks Covid...

Futuremrsm, on August 27, 2020 at 10:08 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
So to start, I am very grateful that my wedding is still happening as planned in 2 months.

One of my bridesmaids is FH cousin, who is in the navy, so she's in another country.
She just informed me last night that her leave was denied and she cant come home for the wedding due to travel restrictions. I've already had a lot of disappointment due to planning a weddinf during a pandemic, but this is really the biggest one. I haven't seen her in over a year and we were really excited to have her home.I'm going to ask someone if they can maybe live stream the ceremony so she can still "be there" but I'm really bummed out she can't be by my side.

Ooops!!! Somehow I hit reply too soon.

I was going to say that FH did 30 years in the Navy and retired recently (entered when he was 17 years old). I knew nothing about the inner workings of the Navy until meeting him. But he would always say, “That’s the Navy“ in response to my questions about some of the practices. I couldn’t understand the idea of not automatically getting leave when requested (particularly in times when they weren’t deployed). But hopefully she can at least watch the wedding via live stream.

Technically it didn't get denied, but they told her she could only go certain places when she's home, and basically couldn't leave her house. Which makes no sense to me. But yes, that's the navy

Oh wow... that sucks! But, yep... the Navy basically “owns” them. I’m very thankful for their service and many sacrifices because I know I could never deal with that military life firsthand.

That really sucks. Hopefully you can figure out streaming.

FH is in the Air Force and the travel restrictions won’t allow him to leave the state. We have to get special permission for our out of state visitors to attend the small wedding we are planning in November. That’s nearly our entire guest list. We plan to use EventLive for our streaming so our guest can still sorta attend. My elderly father can’t be here, nor the man who help raise me. It’s rough. I grew up in an Air Force family so I’m used to restrictions and things changing constantly but this one stings a little more.

Ugh that sucks I'm sorry! My MOH also can't attend as she lives in South Korea and is getting jaw surgery at the time AND is graduating from college. She is basically my sister and it really sucks. I also had a bridesmaid recently drop out due to COVID worries and money but thats a whole other frustrating story. Stupid 2020.

I am so sorry! Covid has turned everything upside down. Although it’s understandable she can’t make it, it still hurts. Maybe ask someone who will be sitting towards the front during the ceremony to live stream for her! Military life is hard. My old unit denied someone leave to go be with his wife while she went into labor. I’m sure she’s devastated that she cannot be there too. I hope you guys can find a special way to celebrate wherever she is able to come home. I know it’s a hard situation. But she wouldn’t want you to be sad on your special day over this. Enjoy the time with everyone who can be there and celebrate with her when you see her next. Best of wishes and hoping for a perfect wedding day for you!

I’m so sorry! My FH’s best friend was supposed to be his best man, but he can’t attend due to travel restrictions either. We haven’t seen him in about six years. This has definitely been a stressful time to be planning a wedding! Take care of yourself!

Sorry This Happened. The Navy Does Suck Right Now (We're Active Duty) But It Is For Everyones Best Interest.
