"thank You" cards at Reception

Crystal , on October 7, 2018 at 8:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hey everyone. I'm considering creating my "Thank You" notes ahead of time and having them at my wedding reception. I would either have a sign saying "please take one" at the cards and gifts table, or leave one at everyone's seat. I've been to a couple of weddings that have done this, and thought it was a cute idea. I kind of saw it as one of their wedding favors for the guests. Just to clarify though, I will still be sending out personalized thank you notes to those that bring a gift to the wedding.

How would you all feel about seeing Thank You cards at the wedding vs receiving them in the mail? Specifically if you're bringing a gift.

Just write them after the wedding. I was recently at a wedding and the couple had taken the time to write individual notes to everyone and used them as place cards. Everyone at my table basically said "huh, well ok". Save yourself the effort

I think that would be really sweet of you to do that for your guests. 😊

A thank-you note is written to a specific person or couple about one's appreciation of a specific gift. In detail. So how can you write notes for gifts you have yet to open? Much less enthuse specifically over the gifts.

There is no need to thank someone for attending your reception, a party you gave them in appreciation of their attending your wedding.

Gratitude can not be generated generically on an assembly line.

If you're doing favors you could attach a simple 'Thank You from Crystal & Spouse' tag, but I wouldn't do a mass produced thank you card. I would just stick with sending out personal handwritten thank yous to the guests after the wedding is over.

The personalized notes would go out after the wedding.

Are they going to be personalized cards? I am guessing not if you're thinking of having them with a sign of "please take one" but you also mentioned having them at people's seats? I think if I got the personalized thank you at the seat I would think thats nice but if it was a generic one, I would assume you weren't sending out personalized ones later and probably be a little critical of it to be honest- until of course I got the real thank you. I personally wouldn't risk people thinking, even for a short period of time, you are trying to avoid sending personalized cards and saving on stamps.

I think this is pointless if you still send out personalized thank you cards after the wedding. It couldn’t hurt, I suppose, but the reception is the “thank you” to your guests for attending. The cards you send out afterward are for the gifts.

Agreed. If you are still planning on sending put cards after the wedding (which I think everyone should do), these seem like a waste.
