Thank you card -- no gift or card but came to wedding

Someone told me that I should write thank you notes to people who came to the wedding but who did not bring a gift or a card. I think that seems a bit weird and like we are fishing for a gift. Thoughts?

I sent a thank you note to a person who came to my bridal shower without a gift. I was so happy she could come and that I got to catch up with her Smiley smile For the wedding if it feels a little awkward or forced to write a "thanks for coming" letter, I'd say skip it. If there are a few people that you are close with and know they would enjoy getting some mail, I'd say write a note! You could talk about some of the neat things you saw on the honeymoon (if you went on one), etc.

I totally agree with you here. We paid for a pretty extravagant wedding, even including having paid for the hotel rooms for every single guest. There were even some guests that could not get there ( despite living only about 20 minutes away) and so at the last minute, in the middle of doing our first look with the photographers, we were stuck trying to find them all an Uber to get there! yet these guests in particular, could not even get us a $.99 card! We aren't expecting any kind of extravagant gift, or really even a gift at all... but it does kind of hurt our feelings that they couldn't even get us a cheap card to say congrats! So DH and I are really struggling with the idea of whether or not to give a thank you card to guests like this. I know that the reception, and in our case the paid hotel rooms as well, are technically supposed to be considered the thank you for these guest coming to our wedding, but we are afraid that they will see or hear about the thank you's that other guests got us and be wondering why they did not get theirs...

We did not write a thank you to the 2 groups that didn't get us a gift and I agree with the point it can look gift grabby if you do, and I understand the frustration of you already paying to feed and accommodate them, when they cant even bring you a card. In my case, the one family member that didn't gift, not only didn't gift, but RSVPed her husband, who didn't show up (and didn't apologize or tell me why he didn't show up). We paid well over 100 a guest. The other couple who didn't gift was one of the richest couples at the wedding. We spend over $2000 to attend their wedding (and my husband attended his bachelor party) AND we got them a nice gift. Not to be petty, but I found both of these situations to be rude, and a thank you was not written.

On the other hand, if I knew the person was struggling to make ends meet or traveled far on a limited budget, I would have evaluated the situation differently. My one friend just had a destination wedding and wrote thank yous to everyone- including those who didn't gift (he was so happy everyone traveled). Understand the situation I guess.

I was planning to because it was a destination wedding for everyone. flight plus room or a long drive plus a meal or to can get pricey. I'll acknowledge that. I would appreciate it as a guest.
