Terrible anxiety/ibs

Ally, on February 23, 2019 at 3:19 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 20
Not getting married until summer but I need to know what to do without hearing the word imodium. I wont take that... I've never used it before and always have bad reactions to new meds. I've suffered from terrible ibs my whole life... something as simple as going to a concert can leave me feeling super uncomfortable for hours. Clearly anxiety is a huge part of it.

It is inevitable that I'll suffer some type of stomach/intestinal discomfort day of. I dont like attention and we have 200 or so attending. How can I keep calm without taking something like valium that'll put me to sleep?

    1. I am surprised that you have never taken imodium if you have ibs, that is a staple I travel with.
But 2. Do you have ibs-c or ibs-d those are treated in different ways.
I have mixed ibs, usually c, but sometimes d. I take a daily medication that helps. I tend to get very bloated, something fizzy like tonic water is my life saver. And then I usually have meds to handle either downstairs situations. Try to eliminate as much stress as you can, avoid your trigger foods. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk more.

Maybe you could start taking fiber daily. My friend has IBS and she claims that’s helped her tremendously. Why did you decide to have a 200 guest wedding when you suffer from major anxiety?

First, I am sorry you are dealing with this. Stomach issues suck. I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 12.

Secondly, have you talked with your doctor about this? There are a lot of new medications out that can help ease the symptoms of ibs. Also, the same applies for anxiety. There are medications and therapies that can help lessen the anxiety without knocking you out like valium.

I have had people tell me all sorts of things that might help with my UC, but I ALWAYS tall to my GI doctor before I start anything. Especially lately since I have had 2 flares since moving and want to keep my stress down and not be flaring for the wedding in August. Good luck!

I would discuss this with a doctor. I know my sisters used Imodium (which I know you don’t want) but maybe if your wedding isn’t until the summer you can try a new med now and get accustomed to it by then.

I can relate on the anxiety and stomach issues. I would say talk to your doctor about concerns.
If you are worried about having stomach issues the day of, just watch what you eat a few days before.
Anxiety, stay calm and breathe. Maybe ask your bridal party and family to take over last minute tasks

So I had this same issue ( work related stress) and my GI doc put me on Imipramine (sp?) it's an old school anti depressant but low doses have shown to make such a huge difference in IBS-D. I went from bloating, pain, 8 trips a day to one a days and minimal bloating. It started working within a week for me, and he kept me on it for a year to help my GI stop being so irritated. He also put me on a daily probiotic which has helped. Please go talk to your doctor.

My whole life gives had alternate. Never complete D but its classified as D during a flare up bc of stool consistency haha. My cramps are horrific.. like breaking sweats and sitting on the bowl for an hour or several trips with just pain. I use pepto. It does help but not 100%. I never took imodium bc I never had full fledged D

I've tried so many things omg so many. Last I was on was amitryptyline and that was TOO strong so they out me on nortriptyline and I got severe stomach pain...like emergency worthy pain. I was rolling around on the floor. Thinking it was a fluke I kept taking it but kept having the pain. Valkuk is incredibly successful. I take it for dentist visits BUT it will knock me out. Makes me super tired. And that's a low dose. I've tried different anxiety and anti depressant meda... all backfired.

Oh- not going to happen. I do like big parties but it takes a solid hour to settle, also I am awkward as hell. I know my ceremony is going to be like... me being a goofball and my brothers standing up there making faces at me LOL. When my little brother got married, he started to cry when he saw his wife to be walking down the aisle. WE ALL laughed at him, including her. LOL. I am hoping for the same respect. We are a bunch of jerks

You still take it? I have to ask my doc about it. Everything I take, literally everything, gives me a bad reaction.

My mom also deals with ibs, Usually at the worst times. A friend of hers who also deals with it told her to take an anti acid while it seemed a little odd my mom was willing to try anything and it’s actually been her life saver!

Along with trying other modalities and dietary modifications, I think it would be helpful to try to meditate or start some relaxation exercises. Developing positive coping mechanisms is SO important and will only enhance the positive effects of prescription medications that you may be using. My top advice is to be open to trying more holistic and natural things along with the meds Smiley smile
