Terrariums as centerpieces?

Tsheaby, on March 12, 2017 at 1:37 PM Posted in Planning 2 20

I'm kind of wanting to skip the traditional flower center pieces at the reception and do succulents or orchids in glass tabletop terrarium...

If it were up to us, we would host our wedding at some giant glass greenhouse, but apparently that doesn't exist. Ha! - haven't fully decided yet, but we would like to have a "outdoorsy" and/or "garden-y" theme with earth tones, greenery, etc. our table names are going to be indentified by 14ers from Colorado.

I like it because it's simple and sort of eclectic, but is it too casual you think?

Toying with the idea of possibly a gold trim instead of black/steel color, would dress them up a bit, and offer bridal party family/friends take them home if they want post-reception.

I'm doing gold geometric terrarium centerpieces. The cheapest I found was through Hobby Lobby when they were 50% off (they do the sale fairly often). I got three different shapes so we can stagger them down the length of rectangular tables. We're putting candles in ours with flower/greenery garlands.

    The shapes we chose:

I'm doing something similar, only with round ones! My florist has said how excited he is to decorate with it.

The only problem I've run into is many florists don't already have this type of container, so I've had to buy them and they're kind of pricey. But I'm giving them to aunts/close friends as a "thank you for helping me through the wedding process" gift, so that cost was ok with me in the end.

Yes!! I'm not alone! - wonderful!

That's so funny, I was just adding to my post about gold trims and the gift idea- I was thinking Hobby Lobby or Amazon...The staggered shapes are a great idea Laura!

And Lindsey, that's exactly what I was thinking too - souvenirs/thank you gifts for after (I don't know what I would do with all of them) but orchids or succulents will live a while in there Smiley smile

If I don't do orchids, I think I would definitely do candles... the lighting would lighting would be nice and intimate!

I'm using gold ones as well. We actually found 10 of various shapes and sizes at Marshalls last weekend for $4-$10 each. Definitely check them out if you have one near you! Going back today in hopes that they restocked.

I think we have one nearby, thank you! I'll have to stalk the all the coupons/deals there, Hobby Lobby, Joanns Fabric Store, etc. and online as they come around.

    Yay!

I actually found them cheaper online then at Hobby Lobby, I ordered a few as a sample and it's pretty good quality - depending on how many you need, getting them in "bulk" is a bit cheaper also. I'm doing the bigger sizes and it's $18.70/each for the rounds and $15.30 for the triangle. Plus 5% off your entire order.

I wanted to host mine in a greenhouse too! It does exist actually--look at arboretums or gardens, or if you can compromise a bit, look for observatories--theyre often rooms with one wall and the ceiling made entirely of glass. That's where I am hosting my wedding.

I think they would be very pretty especially surrounded by votive. My ceremony and cocktail hour are in an atrium, like being in a greenhouse...without the humidity.

    I love them!

There actually is a huge glass greenhouse in the town where I'm having my wedding (Oklahoma City). It's called the Crystal Bridge.

I'm a little late to this post, but I'm doing gold geometric terrariums for my centerpieces, so I obviously love the idea! I second what someone else said about checking out Marshalls, as well as TJ Maxx and Home Goods (all owned by the same company). Between the three stores, I have about 12 different varieties of shapes of varying sizes - about 25 terrariums in all. The most I've spent on a terrarium was $29.99, and that was for a huge shape. Most of the others have been under $10 and are not tiny either. Definitely check it out if you're still thinking of going in this direction!

Hey! Any chance you’d be willing to sell these if you still have them ? Looking for 14 for my tables!
