Tent Reception Set-up

Tina, on August 29, 2019 at 4:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
What do you think of our tent set up? Let me start with some details. It is drawn so that each little square is equivalent to 1 sq ft. The tables may look on top of one another but they were drawn larger than they are to account for the chairs and bodies in the chairs (the numbers really don’t matter right now). The “c” tables are cocktail tables. The tent is 30x60 and going over my stone patio (two layers and into the grass). The dotted yellow line is the tent perimeter. We moved the buffet food tables to inside the house so that we could avoid bugs and so it was close to the caterer (those are kitchen counters in brown). We put the cake and desserts on the half wall so after the buffet the tables like be taken down with full access to dessert.

What does everyone think? Will it work?

Is there only one way in/out of the room where the food will be? That might cause a lot of congestion.

You could also also put some of the tables around the dance floor where you have cocktail tables, that way some people aren’t sooo far away from the dance floor.

It doesn't look like the tent is nearly big enough. I know you said tables are drawn bigger than scale to accoutn for chairs and bodies, but where will people walk? I would hate to be stuck and table 4 or 11 and not be able to get out easily - i'd feel super claustrophobic. The actual placement of everything is fine, you just need more space.

Thank you both. The tent can't get bigger, but I can eliminate guest tables. We haven't finalized our list yet...so we can just cut tables out to make more space. Yes, there is only one way in and out of my house (the food)....other than going around the front and around the house, which doesn't seem to make much sense, I think we will need to let the DJ do a good job of table calling. I've hosted many events in this manner at my home, but never this many people. Usually cap at 50!

I didn’t have a tented wedding but I used this online calculator for everything you have shown that you need to fit and it says you would need a 40x70 tent.

Thanks for the hint. I have a professional coming to walk the space on Tuesday to make suggestions on where else we expand or if we need to eliminate guest.

I think it’s always nice to have tables surrounding the dance floor. That might free up some more space for the rest of the tables.
