Tent flooring

Kristin, on June 29, 2020 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
10/10/20 bride here. We’re having a small wedding with about 35 guests at my FIL’s house. We were planning on having a tent with side walls and a dance floor as a weather backup but they are insisting on the full tent ground to be covered by flooring. I know it’ll be more and they have offered to cover the additional cost (so generous!) has anyone attended an event with full floors?

Mine will be fully floored. I’d suggest fully floored only because people who wear heels will definitely have a hard time moving about. Also, depending on what time of year it is, I’m sure there will be plenty of open toed shoes or More open strap type shoes. If for whatever reason it rains that morning or the night before, peoples feet will be soaked. You also might want to keep in mind the bugs factor without the full floor. Also, going off of the whole possible rain or moisture idea, it will make some of your guests shoes slippery so when they do go on the floor part, it may cause slipping issues.

The bugs were their main argument for the full flooring-which I completely understand. We’re newer to Texas so they would know about that then us. Will your flooring fit perfectly or will there be any excess outside of the tent?

It’s gonna be a perfect fit. we have the option to have the attached floor entrance into the tent which is basically just extra walk up flooring that leads into the tent, but I think we’re going to skip that because that’s ridiculously expensive.

I floored my tent! It was a huge added expense but SO FREAKING WORTH IT for me. People were safe to walk around barefoot, we didn’t have to worry about the condition of the grass, or bugs or critters. It made everything feel much more comfortable. I’ve also been to too many weddings in sinking heels it was a big concern of mine ! Parts of my wedding (cocktail hour) were still in the grass, but I think it have the tent a more finished feeling. I’ve since discovered thistle in the yard (stepped on it and got stabbed!) so am very glad I didn’t put my guests at risk for that! As well as bees, as there’s a lot of clover in the yard.

Aside from expense, there’s no reason not to do it (haha super loaded statement, I know!!). But I mean also that I worried about the flooring being ugly and it wasn’t — it was plain black and unnoticable once all the tables were up. It made the tent feel homey honestly haha. We hung out there a lot after it was set up 🤣. I can dig up some pics if you want

I'd love to see pics! It totally makes sense why my FMIL insisted on it-I honestly didn't even think about bugs in the grass. Considering it's a 'free venue' the added expense of it will be worth it

Haha yeah also truth be told this lawn has always struggled growing (by the water so a lot of salt in the air and it’s in direct sun most of the day) so it tends to be ugly crispy grass, haha!

We ended up with these plastic sort of pieces that click into place , and then they get covered with turf (basically giant rolls of mini golf “grass” but black). I was a little skeptical of how it would look, but it wasn’t noticeable at all once everything was set up. They also had a full wood flooring option which I’m sure would’ve been beautiful, but it was WAY more expensive and end of the day— it’s FLOOR! No one cares what they *look* like haha as long as they feel good to walk on.
Here’s the pieces being put into place, then with the turf on top, and then with all the tables! Tent flooring 1
    Tent flooring 2
    Tent flooring 3

Oh that turned out great! I’ve reached out to a bunch of different vendors to see what are options are. Would love to do the wood floor but I think it’ll easily add another $1k to the cost. TBD!
