Temporary Tattoos At Cocktail Hour?

Chantelle, on February 8, 2021 at 10:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
My boyfriend and I love anime (like Naruto and One Piece, etc.), Pokémon, Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki movies, Nintendo video games, Game of Thrones, Marvel/Avengers superhero movies, and European soccer (FC Barcelona). We imagine our wedding to be a classier event and keeping the quirks to a minimal (just our preference), but I still wanted to sprinkle in these interests somewhere. I was thinking of having a temporary tattoo station during cocktail hour featuring temp tattoos that people can put on from games/shows/movies/sports teams we love. That way our event is still the way we imagine, but our quirks have their own little space for a just a little bit lol. We also love tattoos of course lol.

I know this might be more for the younger crowd. I think our friends in our age group would be into it (many of our friends share our same interests anyway) and I know maybe the older folks might not be interested (which is fine). What do you think about it overall? This kinda stuff doesn’t belong at a wedding event? Or it’s okay? Any advise is appreciated. Or any other suggestions to sprinkle in these interests anywhere else tastefully? Thanks in advance Smiley smile

We also will have some fun facts sprinkled around cocktail hour and the reception space so I guess I could sprinkle more info about these interests that way too.

I’m young (23) and if it were me there, I would be following the waiters for canapes and alcohol rather than looking around for the temporary tattoo stand. IMHO I think it would be a little bit out of place, particularly if you want your wedding to be of a particular standard, but, I am also of the opinion that if people want to incorporate part of a theme or a hobby/interest of theirs, it has to be all or nothing.

With this said, your wedding is your special day so ultimately it doesn’t matter what any of us think but rather what celebrates you!

I thought about this for my own wedding because we also love tattoos. I personally would really enjoy it but like what you said it’s kind of like dependent on your crowd. But it honestly doesn’t sound like it costs a lot and it would be a pretty simple set up so if you are down for It I don’t see why not

I’ve always appreciated as a guest experiencing the small touches that the couple likes. It feels like they are sharing their favorite things with us ❤️

I’m of the mindset that wedding receptions should be fun and a party, so as a guest I would enjoy it! Not sure that I would actually put one on... but it would be funny to see what others chose. It’s a pretty small way to incorporate your personalities without doing anything too over-the-top 😝

You can maybe give them out as favors, but you'd probably be wasting your money. Temporary tattoos are what you get out of a cereal box as a kid. I wouldn't be picking up a temporary tattoo, going to the bathroom to apply water to it, and wear a cartoon on my skin when I'm dressed up

If it fits you as a couple then go for it. Those who don't like it don't have to partake.

For me personally I don’t think it belongs at a wedding I think it’s very kid like but if that is the overall feel of how you want the reception to be real fun and light then I say go for it

Not to be too harsh, but I think it sounds rather tacky and childish for a wedding especially if you are wanting a classier wedding. Nothing about temporary tattoos sounds classy. I would try to incorporate your interests in other ways. For example, my husband loves hockey and baseball so for our wedding our guest books were two jerseys (one hockey & one baseball), our escorts cards looked like tickets to a game, and my garter was designed with logo of his favorite hockey team. They were cute, but simple ways of incorporating things he likes without going overtop or making our wedding look childish. Other ideas would be cute socks for the groomsmen to wear, a cake topper, table numbers with characters on them, or props for a photo booth if you are having one.

I say go for it! Not everything has go “go” perfectly together. If this is a you thing and adds a touch of personalization I think it’s fine. I wouldn’t go over board in the amount you buy as I doubt all of your guests will partake. I know I wouldn’t personally use them, but I wouldn’t judge you if you had them. My friend had some at her wedding at the kids table, and they had fun.

I think this sounds like a super cute and fun way to incorporate your interests as a couple. Having one less formal activity isn't going to suddenly turn a classy wedding into a tacky wedding. This will stand out as something unique and memorable. Go for it!

I like that idea! As a guest, I enjoy seeing how the couple personalized their wedding to fit their interests and hobbies! If there was a temp tattoo station at a wedding I was a guest at, I would def. participate! It's something fun to do that you wouldn't normally do in your everyday life, so why not?!

The fact that you know most of your guests (friends etc) will participate, AND understand that touch, is even better. You know that you have some guests that would enjoy that aspect of your wedding!

I, too, am a fan of keeping it very subtle. Personally I love this idea- I think literally every friend we invite (late 20s to early 40s) would mess around with these for fun. Alcohol would help too 🤣

My advice would be to put them at each table because I think people are more likely to do this if they don't have to go to a designated area (too shy, too crowded, don't want to hold up the line, etc.) Plus your water cup is right there and it's usually when you're seated (waiting to be called to buffet, break from dancing, etc.) that you're looking for something to do. Second advice, put a still packaged sponge or one of those super condensed wash clothes on a soap dish beside whatever container is holding the tattoos to make application easier and keep tables clean!
I definitely think the worldview of adults is skewing- I think 10 years ago people would say "so childish, they're almost 40" while thinking how much they missed being 12 and putting 5 temporary tattoos on their face and now I feel things are more positive (and honest) about adulthood and people just say "is that temporary tattoos?? I miss those, slap a whole arm sleeve on me!" Which, imo, is so nice and wholesome.

I think that sounds super fun! It is your wedding, so you can do what you want with it. I saw photos from a wedding where they hired a face painter, another where they hired someone to put festival jewel stickers on the faces of guests. I think many of your guests would have a lot of fun with this especially if alcohol is involved —and it will be a hilarious souvenir to wake up to the day after!

I just came here to say you are awesome and as a fellow anime watcher (Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, & Dragonball Z are the faves) I'm trying to see how to incorporate dragonballs into our wedding lol. With that being said, if I saw this set this up in lieu of a photo booth, I'd be so excited and happy to be included in your personal interests. I think its a 'Know Your Crowd' type thing but it sounds like you won't have any trouble getting your guests to participate Smiley smile
