Temporary Ring

MSK, on January 4, 2018 at 6:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
Sooooo when the jeweler told y’all that you’d have to give up your ring for a certain amount of time post-engagement (re-sizing, dipping, customizing, making of wedding band) did anyone else use a temp ring so their hand didn’t feel naked? I honestly hated walking around without one so after a day I went and bought a little silver ring at the pawn shop so I could wear something on my finger 😂. Any one else do this?

FH didn't want me to take my engagement ring on a bachelorette trip so I bought a simple band off of Amazon for like $5. That's what I wear anytime I can't wear my ring.

Never did that. I am comfortable not having my engagement ring on my finger, either for myself or for anyone else.

My rings came from a local jeweler. Cleaning, resizing and dipping were all done either while we waited or within an hour or so.

When my ring got resized I wore a ring I already had, I plan to do the same thing when my wedding band is getting customized (Because of the shape of my ring the band will need to be custom and I was told they would need my ring through that whole process :/ ).

That is exactly my position right now - and they said since it's a custom it would take over a month!! (I'm hoping they can send my e-ring back before the band is done... i'm impatient and I looooove my ring!)

I didn’t do this for when I got my ring cleaned but I just ordered a pack of 8 silicone stackable rings off Amazon for $13 to wear to the gym and camping and such. I like them because I can wear something and not worry about them getting messed up. Plus they’re different colors so it’s fun

All the cleaning, rhodium, polishing, sizing is done at my jeweler. Polishing & rhodium takes 20 minutes while I wait. But I did buy a tungsten band on amazon for $13 for traveling. It has CZs in it that make it look like a legitimate wedding band. I might get a plain 2mm white gold band to wear when traveling instead though.

My FH had mine sized and everything before he proposed so I wouldn't have to go without it lol. He knew I wouldn't want to give it up but I def would've wanted something to wear in its place if I had to! We talked about getting the rubber wedding bands for trips and stuff because I'm always taking my ring off around the house and forgetting it.

I have my high school class ring that fits me well so that's my substitute if needed. Smiley smile

When my ring was getting sized I wore a sliver band until I got my ring back. I didn’t feel right without a ring on.

Not quite the same, but a friend of mine got a CZ sterling silver ring off amazon that was similar to hers in a size and a half bigger to wear during pregnancy, because she felt so weird not wearing her real rings due to swelling.

if i had to do something like that then i definitely would too. Fh got me a silly little CZ sterling ring like a year into our relationship so i wouldnt necessarily go out and buy one, i'd just wear that one for the time being. but i would not go with my hand naked. lol

I wore a ring of my great grandmother's in the meantime. It didn't really fit either, but I did miss the feeling of a ring. Silicone rings would have been a good investment though! I've been hoping to get some for camping!

When I got mine resized and redipped right after DH proposed, no, I didn't wear a different ring in it's place. They only had it for a couple days.

When they kept it while they made my custom shadow band, though, they had it for 5 weeks, and then almost one week on top of that because when we went to pick up my e-ring and approve the mold of my band, my e-ring was huge on me (I had been losing weight and after not wearing it for several weeks, the sizing issue was very noticeable). I did choose to wear my birthstone ring my parents had given me a long time ago for those 6 weeks. No one at my bridal shower noticed I was wearing a different ring. We just got silicone bands for Christmas to wear when we're doing things we shouldn't be doing while wearing our rings.

It's personal preference. I happened to have another ring I loved, so I just went with that. Try to remember that the ring isn't what makes you engaged or makes you married. It's just an outward symbol of your commitment. It's a ring you'll have for life. A couple days or a couple weeks without it is so small compared to the lifetime you will have that ring.

I am not looking forward to giving up my ring for 2 weeks right before the wedding for soldering my wedding bands to my e-ring... my e-ring is custom, but my bands are chin Kay's, and it would void their warranty to have the custom jeweler solder them, even though he could do it same day...
