Temporary fix to an ugly venue's ceiling!

Carlee, on February 27, 2017 at 3:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 26

Our venue has that awful white ceiling tiles that you see in a school or a basement. Any tips on covering it up for the wedding?

Maybe draping fabric from the ceiling?

    Draping.

Keep the lights very dim and use uplighting and candles to keep focus on the tables.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe using lights to brighten it up?

Will they allow you to do draping such as this?

I couldn't tell you what the ceiling looked like at any wedding I've been to in the past three years. Guests will remember the food, the booze, and the music, and maybe your dress. Make sure those are top notch first, then you could add draping if the ceiling is tall enough and it's really, really bothering you

If you can't afford to cater you won't be able to afford good draping. Draping + up lighting can get very expensive

My cousin had hers in a church rec center and while it won't go down as the most beautiful wedding , she did decorate tables well and properly hosted the guests and I promise you I never once noticed her venue ceiling

Draping is EXPENSIVE. I would just accept the ceilings and pay for some food. Smiley smile

No one looks at the ceiling. Skip the drapes and use that money for a caterer.

No one will care about the ceiling when they are eating and drinking. They will be too focused on mingling and dancing.

We are doing this and uplighting. And for the record it was one of the first things my Dad noticed and it was decorated for a wedding. This should be the last thing you add after properly hosting. Feed your guests a professional meal.

How to fix the ugly ceiling:

    1. Hire a caterer.

    2. Leave the ceiling, because no one will care if they're well fed and given booze.

I would be more concerned about the the food than the ceilings. I remember the crappy food at weddings. Can't begin to tell you what the ceilings look like. Hmmm...don't even know what the ceiling looks like in my venue.

Wow! I didn't know ceiling draping was allowed, with fire codes. I know that in campus housing (dorm room and apartment), we weren't allowed to hang anything from the ceiling.

We were going to do draping in the ceremony room just to add something, but this would cost 600-750 on a room we're only spending maybe 45min we used the 750 for more apps.

Judging by the comments I suggest you use the money on hosting and leave the ceilings be.

Since draping can be really expensive, you can try to just create lower focal points that help draw the eye away from the ceiling. Nice centerpieces that aren't too tall (tall ones will only draw the eye up to the ceiling), etc. If the eye is drawn to other things, the ceiling won't be very noticeable. And remember that most people probably aren't going to notice or remember the ceiling anyway.
