Template for comparing venues?

Alicia, on December 17, 2014 at 12:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Does anyone have a word or excel document that they used when researching venues that they would be willing to share? I feel like I have information overload now that I'm trying to decide on a venue and looking for the best option.

Thanks!

Surprisingly I did not have one! Thankfully there aren't many good venues around so it was pretty clear which one we would go to. But I still have 30 minutes left of my lunch break, so I can probably crank one out right now for you! I love Excel Smiley smile Though I'm a very beginner level of Excel so it won't be too fancy.

I didn't use a template...I just created a seperate email address for wedding planning that I had quotes mailed to (or would send to myself if I saw something online). From there I created three folders: AFFORDABLE; PRICEY BUT AFFORDABLE; NOT A CHANCE and filed the quotes there. When it came to making a decision I would only look at the first two folders (but I fell in love with the first venue I toured and only need to have the pricing on others for FH)

Hey @Alicia - check out our app WedTeam. There is a compare vendor feature that you might find helpful when looking for your venue!

Would something like this be helpful? (sorry it is a small picture. Hopefully you can read it)

I just created a master wedding spreadsheet and compared venues in there. Things I kept track of were whether or not the dates I wanted were available, price, what was included (catering, alcohol, tables, chairs, etc), rental fee, if there were catering minimums you had to meet, number of people it held, and then a field for notes and pros and cons. When we eliminated a venue from consideration, we colored it red, and when we wanted to do an in person visit, we colored it green.

It isn't always easy to compare them because the price often includes a lot of random things or sometimes doesn't include anything at all. This ended up being a good way for me to figure it all out. It worked for me, but you might have other concerns, so make sure you have columns for things that matter to you!

Sounds like Ashleigh had a good strategy with hers. The thing with our experience is that all of the venues we chose included everything in a "per person" price. But some times the place doesn't include catering, rental fee, etc. So mine is really basic for most people since I just made it up now with info of the one we chose.

@kathleen that would be perfect. Thanks! The places I've looked at are also real basic, I'm mainly looking at venues that have everything included. I can see the picture and will use that as a base.

@wwkatie, thanks! I will try that also.

I printed one out that I found on Pinterest but never used it. I picked out three venues that best fit our personalities + distance. The first venue my fh liked, the second venue I liked, the third venue we both fell in love with and was much more our style. Plus we got a great deal with the up lighting and having our wedding on a Friday.

You can just make one up yourself. Excel is so easy. And you can change it easily to reflect new items that you would like to include. This sounds like a really good idea. I use excel all the time for things but I didn't have too many choices for venues so I didn't need one. Good luck.
