Tell me what beer and wine to buy!

Jerrica, on October 10, 2021 at 9:15 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
So we are having 60 guests at our wedding with a few I'm sure will RSVP no, and maybe 2/3 of the guests drink. Problem is FH and I are not drinkers, we just never really got into that. I have asked family what they like and their answers are either very vague ("Just get what you like" or "White and red wine") or so specific I don't know that it will be a crowd pleaser. So, I'm coming to you ladies and gents! Lol. We plan on having a couple signature Christmas themed cocktails and then beer and wine. So what would you suggest and how much? Also, we are NOT dancing, our reception is only a cocktail hour, then dinner and cake.

I have no suggestions for beer, but for wine, I would do either a Pinot Noir or a Cabernet Sauvignon for red and Pinot Grigio for white as those are usually the universal wines at weddings. I recommend the Josh brand, although they are a little pricier (anywhere from $12-20 a bottle). Each bottle has about 4-6 servings (depending on who is pouring!) in the bottle, so I'd probably get about 7-10 of each wine but that's assuming ALL of your guests will have a glass of wine. So realistically maybe 4 or 5 of each?

Thank you! That is very helpful! We do have a licensed bartender so that should help with servings lol.

I agree with a Pinot Noir for red. For white I’d choose Pinto Grigio or Chardonnay, but a lot of that is crowd based so maybe ask a few white wine drinkers which they’d prefer. I don’t know that brand really matters unless you have some really experienced wine drinkers in your group which it sounds like you don’t. For beer, I’d choose one light option and one heavier option like a lager or an IPA.

The store Total Wine has a web calculator for what to get (you can input what kinds of drinks how many hours etc) if you’re looking to figure out how many cases of red/white each!

Ask your families/friends attending what they drink so you don’t have wasted alcohol. Some people prefer specific brands/types that other groups don’t drink at all.

My husband and my guy cousins are really into IPAs (type of light beer) and at our wedding I was surprised to see everyone was loving the White Claw hard seltzers (variety of flavors). I agree with Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Moscato are popular white wines and for red, Pinot Noir or Merlot are all “standard” wines that majority of wine drinkers order. We also had Bud Light and Miller Lite (common beer most beer drinkers like). Kenneth Jackson or Kimberly Crawford are wine brands that are nice, middle of the road (not cheap but not crazy expensive either). Hope this helps ❤️❤️❤️

Cab Sauvignon is a red that every wine drinker can appreciate. Recommend: William Hill
Sauvignon Blanc is a drinkable white that is a good medium between chardonnay (heavier buttery) and grigio/moscato (sweet). Recommend: Honig

A safe bet for red wine is to look for "red blends" these are generally easy to drink and appeal to a lot of tastes. I agree with the pinot grigio for white. Chardonnay can be hard to pick a good one that many people will like. For beer make sure you have a light beer option like a mechelob ultra or colors light a long with a good lagger. Check out pinterest for how much to buy. I've found some handy guides there that base it off your guest count

People drink one drink per hour on average. Some will drink more and some less.
I’m a big fan of Sauvignon Blanc which is white wine. Most like Cabernet and Pinot Grigio. For beer I would choose a light beer, regular beer and spiked seltzers.

Try to buy at a store that allows you to return unopened bottles. I was able to return $200 worth of liquors to Bottle king.
