FH and I decided yesterday to scrap the big wedding and just go for an immediate friends and family back yard wedding at my parents cabin. The idea of spending all that money on a party when we could be going on a vacation, plus the stress just got to us.

So, it will be about 50 people (my parents each come from a family of 5) but no more than 50. I want to grill steaks, (we live in Montana) and do pies instead of cake. But is a backyard wedding still traditional ? Do I need to drag out a dance floor and do tons of decorating still ? What is involved in a small back yard wedding? I've never been to one.

Before committing, get estimated costs. The catered BBQ won’t likely be too much (get a licensed caterer). But for 50 guests, unless the cabin has 4-5+ bathrooms I’d suggest nice trailer bathrooms. Rentals also add up (chairs, tables, linens, and the worst fees=delivery, pickup, after 5 pm pickup fee, etc). A licensed venue can offer bathrooms, basic rentals & licensed food service. It may be less expensive & work to use another venue.

What about bringing in catering from a BBQ restaurant? It can be pretty cheap and makes it easy for everyone. They'll usually deliver and set up for a small cost and then you may just need to do the clean up.

We are getting married on 7/13/19. Smiley smile I think it will all work out really well. I have a ton of family and friends and we all seem to work together to put together our weddings.
I tend to get overwhelmed but my mom just reminded me that I helped with my sisters at 175 people and that didnt seem bad at all.
Money isnt an issue, it's that I'm an introvertand get overwhelmed

No way!! Our wedding day is 7/10/19 and our "post -wedding celebratory dinner" at the restaurant to celebrate with those who can't attend the is going to be on 7/13/19!! I'm so excited to find a bride looking for the same type of wedding as I am and planning it in the same timeframe! Its really not about the money for us either... It's what we wanted. The big wedding is nice, but between having social anxiety, being an introverted couple, and already having other financial responsibilities (3 kids and saving for a house) we felt this was a better fit for us personally. If you're up for it, we could be planning buddies! With so many wedding aspects and timeline in common, it could be fun to bounce ideas off of each other.
