Tell me about eloping!

L, on March 10, 2020 at 8:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 2
My fiancée and I are thinking about eloping, maybe even set on doing it. Either right before we go in vacation to a couples only resort, or while we’re there. We also want a traditional wedding in a few years. Thoughts?

What have you guys decided to do?

so i did not personally elope but my coworker did and he told me all about it!

initially they wanted to elope because they wanted to save money spent on a wedding to instead go on really nice trips. they went on a really nice honeymoon. eventually they had a traditional reception months later.

i think eloping is a nice idea because you can just make it more about you two and it saves money that's for sure. you can have a nice wedding celebration whenever!

I never grew up looking forward to a wedding day, it sounded like a day full of fitting other people's expectations and divorced family drama. Eloping was the perfect answer to making a wedding day something I looked forward to - you can literally do anything. You can get married on a boat, in a candy store, looking over your favorite lake. The possibilities are endless! You have far more flexibility than the usual wedding setup that requires enough space to accomodate a large group.

You can get as glam or stay as casual as you'd like. I feel like the definition of "elopement" has evolved so much from the days of old. Eloping now means having a romantic day of just you and your partner. It doesn't have to mean cheap, secret, or unplanned. You can save so much money that can be used ot enhance other aspects of your life.

Family can get very emotional about weddings but don't let that sway you into something you won't look back on fondly. You can also have the best of both worlds with a ceremony and day focused just on you two - and a celebration with friends and family a couple weeks or a year later where you can do toasts, dancing, etc.
