Can I have RSVP by phone as an option to make things easier on my guest?

We asked our rehearsal dinner guests to RSVP by email, text, or phone and not one of them did any of the above. They didn't RSVP period.

We had to track some people down about the invitations, but most mailed their card back in a timely fashion.

Unless you're having a really casual wedding, I'd force them to mail the cards back because it is a formal, important event. Let your invitations set the tone.

I agree with paris but I am putting OCR codes and phone number to rsvp because most of our guests will be male, I am not sure if they will know how to fill it out.

edited because I spelled mail instead of male. lol

Cards, email, phone - I think that many of us are having this issue. "I assumed you knew I was coming"

Absolutely, but be prepared they might call at inconvenient times- like while driving or when you are busy and can't write them down. They might also want to chat about the wedding, ask a million questions or open to door for them to say something offensive about your plans. Maybe your FH will take the call and forget to mark them down...etc.

As for etiquette, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

We just did phone and email as our options. However, we have a small guest list (over half are IN the wedding party or coming with someone in the wedding party) the rest are close immediate family and very close friends. I've already talked to most on the phone and they have RSVP'd before even getting the invite, so I think for us it will be fine.

However if you're having a larger event, you may want to have them mail back replies as it could quickly get confusing and names could get lost/misplaced. We only had to send out 17 invites, and like I said over half of those were to people in the wedding so I only need to track down 6 or 7 RSVP's from others!

My cousin had a reception in the next state over 6 hours away. She only had call or email RSVP and it was for about 75 people. She didn't have any problem. I think it just depends on your crowd. I think with mailing cards, people usually just call anyways because they lost the card. I was considering trying to do a postcard RSVP since postcard stamps are a lot cheaper. Not sure if that's doable. It was just a thought so far. I would prefer online or phone. We haven't talked about it, yet, since we are so far away.

We are doing online RSVP with the option to call if a guest prefers. The phone number listed will be a google voice number so that a) we're not giving our cell phone numbers out to everyone attending the wedding, and b) it will go automatically to voicemail, which we will have as an easy record of who called, and c) we don't have to worry about when they might call, since we won't actually be picking up. We'll just have a recording that says something about it being our wedding/RSVP hotline or something, and ask them to leave a message with name, number of guests, etc.

I don't care how they are responding. We aren't doing RSVP cards. I want people to rsvp via the website mostly, or if they call, text, email or fb message me thats fine to. When it comes time for final head counts I know I will be individually calling people to hound them for their answer no matter which medium I use.

Hahaha I think Elle is probably right. We did cards but ended up calling like 10 couples at least.

We are doing online RSVP with the option to do a telephone RSVP if they're not comfortable with the online system. So far everyone has done the online RSVP.

Edited to add: Like Jenn, we also used a Google voice number in order to avoid giving out our actual numbers. We were able to choose a number with the word BEER in it (which is fitting, since we're being married at a brewery.)

I like the QR code for a RSVP that would be awesome. Also keep in mind how many people that are invited are formale and how many that are laid back. For my older generation that's going to be invited they are getting the traditional RSVP, while the rest will get a few options

@Jenn I'm doing the same thing online RSVP and Google voice Smiley smile and I'm saving money on stamps in the process. My older generation that are not tech savvy are receiving a traditional RSVP cards.

I did the website RSVP, by email or by phone - no mailed RSVP option. So far over half have responded and the deadline is June 30th. No one has called, about half have used email and the other half used the website. It seems to be working really well so far!
