Teen flower girls

Kelsey, on June 15, 2018 at 2:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 23
I have two sisters that will be 16 and 17 when I get married. I want to make the flower girls, but I want some kind of fun twist on it. The problem is I have no idea what that could be!
I saw on FB a couple haveing an adult man as their “flower girl” only he had a fannypack and tossed leaves. I think that’s so awesome and I want something unique like that. HELP!!!

What is our venue/time of year/theme? Like if its a winter wedding they can toss like fake snow maybe? Or maybe then can just carry a bunch of helium balloons - might look cool for pictures?

Teenage flower girls is a unique twist alone. I don't know that you have to do anything else. We're having our grandma's be our flower girls since we don't have any young children in our family at this time. We created a cute way to "propose" to them and they loved it! I'm sure we're going to get some great pictures from it and it's going to add a little fun and humor to the day.

Perhaps you can have them carry a purse made from real flowers.

We don’t have a venue yet. But it’s fallish (September) and theme will probably be vintage/rustic.

You said you want them to be flower girls, but do they want to be flower girls?

Would teen girl flower girls be as adorably funny as grandmas?

Probably not. The humor in having the grandmas or a guy is that it is the complete opposite of what's expected.

The grandmas as flower girls picture is absolutely adorable!

I have the same question as B11? Do they want to be flower girls? I don't know any girls that age that would want to do this. They would want to be bridesmaids or junior bridesmaids.

Nope. Teenage girls are trying so hard to be taken seriously and looked at as grown up they want nothing to do with what is normally a child's role.

To answer those who are asking if they want to be, I don’t know. But that is why I am wanting to find a cool spin on it. I think if they were just doing the regular flower girl routine I doubt it. But it’s also my wedding at the end of the day and if I have the ability to do something a little different I’d like to.

I was 17 when my sister got married. I would have been beyond insulted if she had asked me to be a flower girl. I was her maid-of-honor, I would have been very happy to be a regular bridesmaid. She treated me like an adult, not a preschooler.

I honestly don’t know if there is a way do do this with out being kinda insulting or hurtful.... grandmas are one thing but when you’re trying to prove yourself as an adult, this isn’t the best option.... maybe they can hand out programs of something?

Your heart is in the right place but definitely check with the girls. If they embrace it, they might have some good ideas to make it fun and unique,

Have you thought about having them be Junior Bridesmaids?

My 16 year old sister would die of embarrassment if I asked her to fill the role of bridesmaid. Can they be junior bridesmaids?

Why junior? I truly don't understand the need to use the diminutive. They'd do the exact same thing a bridesmaid would do, wear the appropriate clothing and get down the aisle.

I was just trying to find a compromise between the two roles?

When I was 17 I would have LOVED to be a flower girl. I'm not entirely sure why it would be seen as insulting?

I love the ballroom idea a pp had! That sounds fun, you could also have them hand out flowers, blow bubbles, throw leaves for your fall wedding. Do you have a ring bearer? They could also carry the rings.
