Teacher's invite

Sara, on November 1, 2018 at 9:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20
I'm planning my wedding in 2020 and was talking to one of my professors today and we got on the topic of my wedding. She said I should send her photos when I finally get married but was wondering if it would be weird to invite her and one of my other professors who I am very close to. Do you think I should?

If you have a close personal relationship with them, why not? Is this a personal you would typically ask out to dinner?

I think that is perfectly fine! On the flip side my sister invited her entire class to celebrate at the ceremony since they lived close by!

Lol I am imagining if I invited my class of 18 3 year olds to my wedding lol. Pretty much picturing 18 kids with cupcakes running around the dance floor. Someone having a fit cause baby shark is not playing. Someone else getting hit lol. I love my class but wow that would be work.

Oh my goodness noooo!! Baby shark is going to be the death of me. I teach first grade and it’s almost been more annoying stuck in my head than worrying about this wedding hahaha

She taught 3rd grade at the time! It was adorable.

I think yes if you have a relationship with them outside of class. Will you stay in touch with them when you graduate? If so, invite them!

You don't need to send STD for a year and invites for almost 1.5 years. I would wait and if you still want to invite the teacher in a year, then do it.

I’m inviting my kindergarten teacher to my wedding! We’ve stayed in touch over the years and a few years ago she ended up moving into the same neighborhood FH and I live in. We hang out at the community pool with her and her dog and our dog are really good friends!

My dad is a college professor, he always get invited to weddings. Most the time he doesn't go, but he does send a card to them. He use to be the Justice of the Peace, and has been the officiant at several of his former students weddings as well.

Definitely wait but I’d suggest just sharing pics as she asked. Professors aren’t the same as co-workers but unless you hang out with them outside the office/school I wouldn’t invite them (especially co-workers in case someone who wasn’t invited throws a fit and then work becomes problematic).

If you're close with them and want them to come I think you should invite them to share your social day with you!

Being "friends" with people who have professional power over you (bosses, managers, teachers, etc.) can result in very confused relationships when it comes time for grades/evaluation/raises/promotions. Business is business, and social is social. Keep them separate.

I wouldn't say anything to her at this point that would imply you're planning on inviting her, then just wait and see how you feel about it when it's time to send out your invitations. She has an active role in your life right now, but next year that may not still be the case. When it's time to do serious guest list planning, if you feel like you would like to have her there on your wedding day and it fits your budget, go for it!
