Tattoo cover-up

Krystal, on June 11, 2012 at 10:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Does anyone know of a really good tattoo cover-up product? The only one I have that would show with my dress is on my back and I am considering using some kind of cover-up.

I use dermablend which I still would be careful because it has wiped off when rubbed. I used it for a friend she had a small tat on her back and it did fine and help up the whole day for her.

Hyde Ink. You can get it one Ebay. It's like a flesh colored temporary tattoo to cover your real one.

Mine covers a lot of my back and the dress covers maybe half of it. So rubbing would be a possible problem. Gotta be pretty stuck on there to work. Would the dermablend work with one of those "all day spray" holds?

It may work with a spray Krystal, honestly if you do try that let me know. That hyde ink looks safer, never heard of it though.

You will get transfer from any product used in reality. Lot of movement.. Some just less than others and some work better.

Actually that Sally Hansen spray for legs works pretty good. Use it early, let it dry/"cure". Spray thin layers that you let dry in between about 10-12 inches from the skin. Covered my friends entire sleeve for a shoot.

Dermablend is a great product as well.

It helps to give "coverups" a dusting of powder to help set it/stay better. Even press the powder with a big poof, like blotting.

    I do MU too.

I used dermablend and it worked great but I didn't have any of my dress really touching tattoo cover up. Here's a photo. The tattoo is on my chest just above my right breast (things we do at age 19. LOL).

Good luck finding something that works for you!

Anya it looks great! Yeah I used dermablend for my partial sleeve that I have (so it's big) and me and a BM were playing around during pics and the dermablend rubbed off on her skirt. Thankfully she just turned the skirt around so it wouldnt be seen in pics but I was so upset that it rubbed off!!

Yes, I have used it. And it works great. How big is the tattoo?

Also, make sure you order it from EBay; less expensive there.

Yeah, I was worried about transfer from the makeups and stuff too, which is why I got the Hyde Ink. Good Luck!

Then I definitely recommend it. You may need 2 sheets to cover it, but you get a few in each pack anyway.

Mine is about the size of an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper.. The hideink stuff looks effective... but some pictures makes it look like a giant band-aid. But others actually look like a light cover. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a little one and try it first. But anyway I'll still post a pic tomorrow with the dress..

Edit: I read more on the site and the hideink is supposed to blend better after a bit so I think I may try it on a different tattoo I can look at more and watch what happens...

The Hyde Ink may be very noticeable. It will probably look like a piece of plastic sitting on your skin. Depending upon how well it adheres, if you sweat, it may slide off.

The back tends to sweat more and therefore can cause Dermablend or other consumer products to melt and sweat off. After many years of trial and error, I have found only one way to cover a tattoo and keep it covered for a wedding. That is with professional makeup designed for special effects use. It takes some practice to keep the makeup looking like skin and not a piece of plastic but after many trials and attempts, I have it down.

Your best option to cover it and keep it from coming off is through a professional makeup artist that is experienced in tattoo covers.

The following images are direct from the camera on my phone and have not been modified in any way. The cover lasted completely until she washed it off at night. It didn't transfer, run or smear and was completely undetectable to everyone.

The Sally Hansen leg spray and Dermablend are great for a photo shoot, but they won't hold up to an entire day's events with hugging, and dancing and sweating.

I believe the product is only available to professional makeup artists and can't be purchased by consumers. It must also be applied with an airbrush and stipple to keep it looking like skin. The area needs to be shaved to remove hairs, then prepped and cleaned with alcohol. Then the colors are used in a stippling affect to create natural looking skin and minimize the colors of the tattoo. Then the next is applied with an airbrush gun and finally with the water barrier sealer. In order to purchase all of these items, it would cost well over $1,000 to try to have someone do it for you. But if you can find a makeup artist familiar with special effects, he/she should be able to provide you with the cover up for well less than the cost of the products.
