Tasting, what should I expect?

Jaimie, on September 8, 2013 at 8:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

My venue told me that I should come in for my tasting soon, which I thought was much earlier than expected. They want to know which meals I want to try, which I was taken aback by since I had thought that the point of the tasting is to try a little sampling of everything. This seems to be much different than I expected. Can anyone tell me anything else I should probably expect from going for a tasting? I was hoping to have appetizers to try, but they don't seem to be offering that. I'm a little disappointed.

When I had my tasting, we tried a little bit of the main things I wanted, and some of the veggies. I also saw samplings of the plates, silverware, and cups we are using, as well as, the choices on punch bowls and fountains. The main thing you should look for is the quality of food that you want. I had to remember that it wasn't just for me to eat, and to choose things I think everyone at my wedding would like. Good luck!!

At our tasting we had already picked the menu 2 entrees, 2 vegs, and the 2 sides along with the appetizers. We went in with us along with our mothers. We were seated at a table set with the wedding place settings and then the food was served to us on a beautiful platter family style. It was everything that we had picked minus the appetizers. About half way through the caterer came out to see if we wanted to keep same menu or change any part of it. Then explained the normal presentation/ set up as we chose a buffet style, and again asked if we wanted any part changed. Since we were served on the place settings we choose he also asked if we wanted any of that changed and if we wanted bread and butter on tables or in the buffet room. Where we wanted the salt and pepper and if we wanted salads served or as part of the buffet. After all decisions were made he left us to finish our meal. We were served full portions for all four of us. We were susposed to do it 6 months in advanced for chan

Thanks for the responses. I guess I should work on picking what I want prior to the tasting.

We are scheduling ours soon because you want to have that part out of the way in case you don't like their food you can book your own caterer. My venue is providing my food, cake, etc so I want to make sure it's good so that I know if I need to get my own catering company.

For our tasting we picked out six entrees to try (based on our package, we're getting a beef, fowl and fish package so we picked two to try from each). The owner of our venue talked us through everything and poured us lots of wine. Our venue holds free bridal shows once in awhile so that's when we tried the cake and appetizers. We probably had about fifty entrees to choose six from to try, so it's just not feasible to try them all.

My caterer did not offer appitizers originally but when I asked if I could he had no problem he just had a set number I could have. I would try asking your place to see if that is offered

At our tasting it was more casual. we had 3 of our 6 passed hourderves, the salad course the pasta course then they made the two chicken dishes we couldnt decide between with the side dishes we chose. overall we were stuffed! I think from what I can tell every place does it different!

Most we talked to we are to pick about what we want. Most we have seen have so many choices I can see why they don't do a little of everything. It makes sense so they don't have to waste much food.
