Tanning with tats

Millissa , on April 6, 2019 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Has anyone tanned with a lot of tattoos? I have a full sleeve tattoo color and black and white. Im white as a ghost like twilight white, i want to go to a tanning bed long enough to give me a sun kissed look but im not sure how it would effect my tattoos.

It shouldn't effect the ink if you're only doing it once, maybe just put some sunblock on the tats to be safe. Ink only fades fast if you tan constantly, poor ink quality, or the artist didnt go into the skin far enough.

Just wear sunscreen on your tattoos, you will be fineSmiley smile
Start out slow...8 mins or less then gradually work up to 20 mins( if you even go a full session, you may not want to)

Please reconsider using tanning beds. They significantly increase your chances of skin melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, especially when you use them before age of 35. Here is some additional info on this:

It isn’t recommended to tan with any tattoos that are younger than a year. I’m ghastly white with a full sleeve and a bunch of other tattoos. I recommend a spray tan.

My boss has full super colorful sleeves and she regularly spray tans. Her tattoos always look the same, so maybe you could give a spray tan a try?

The spf you buy at Target isn’t good for the beds so put the lotion on before going and don’t mention it while you’re there. Smiley sexy

Maybe consider a self tanning lotion instead. Especially given some are only a week old.

Yes I have been to tanning beds with tattoos and honestly didn't think about it. When I go to the beach I put sunblock on my whole body. For tanning bed I just do it and nothing has ever faded significantly. But for weeks old tattoos I would definitely put spf on them, and all of them if you are super concerned.

I have medium skin tone to tan and have two tattoos. One with color and one black. I haven’t had any issues with fading in a tan bed. They are quite old though 6+ years. I do use some lotions I purchased from the tanning studio.

I have 8 tattoos and tan regularly - about 3x/wk (I don't want any flack about how tanning beds are bad for you either; I'm well aware). However, my tattoos are all over 2+ years old. With one of your tattoos only being a week old, I would wait the at least 6-8 weeks before exposing the tattoo to UV rays

I have 3 tattoos, two have color. I've tanned a few times & never noticed a problem. One thing you can do is put a high SPF specifically on your sleeve and lay in a bed. Start at lower times. A few times at 5 minutes, then 8 minutes, then 10. So you tan slowly instead of burning. Some tanning lotions advertise "tattoo enhancement" but I really have no idea what that means so I just use SPF haha!

Buy tanning lotion with tattoo enhancement. It’ll say it on the bottle.

I have a half sleeve but I'm naturally olive complexion and tan very easily. I personally think my tattoo looks better when I get darker.
