So I have never been tanning, never talked to anyone about tanning and know nothing about tanning. Anyone able to give me some info? Do you tan naked? Do you need those little bottles of lotions they sell? How long do you go for? I'm going to the Caribbean Islands and know I'll be mainly laying on...

Do you need those little bottles of lotions they sell? How long do you go for? I'm going to the Caribbean Islands and know I'll be mainly laying on the beach and heard tanning will help reduce sunburns because I'm fairly white now due to just coming off winter. Anyone able to help me?

If your main reason is to avoid a sunburn on your HM then there is absolutely no need at all to go to a tanning bed. The whole base tan thing is a myth. I have very fair skin and have been to many tropical locations and have never been burned because I wear sunscreen (reapplied as directed).

Enjoy your tanning. Don't take birth control pills. You will get a blod clot and die.

I think it will be best if you get tan before you go to the Caribbean. Being sunburned is miserable. You will still need to use sunscreen though even if you have a tan. I do not use lotions. I think they are overrated. I think the main reason to use lotion is so your skin won't be dry so you can use your own regular lotion before you go. Also depending on your skin tone, I would start out as low as 3 minutes and go up if you don't get red.
