Tall brides!

Nicole, on January 20, 2017 at 1:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I'm quite tall, 6'0", and I wanted any tall brides to tell me about their experiences with it. The pros and cons, any obstacles dress shopping or finding shoes, some being taller than FH, etc.

I'm not that tall (5'7") but my FH isn't that much taller and I'd be taller if I wore any sort of heal. I'm wearing flats and am so excited for them. I found cute, sparkly gold flats and I'll be comfortable all day!

I'm not getting a normal wedding dress so I can't help you out there. However, most stores should have different lengths. I know my girlfriends who are just a little shorter than I am (I'm 5'11") haven't had issues. As for shoes, I have tiny feet for my height, so again no help.

FH doesn't care if I wear heels and am taller than him because I'm confident and sexy. That's what he cares about.

I'm 5'11 as well. Had no issues with dresses, especially happy that I saved money on not needing the length altered at all! My husband is about an inch shorter, he doesn't mind the height difference but I didn't want to appear huge in pics..drives me nuts, so I wore cute heels for getting ready pics and slipped into flats right before walking down the aisle. Best of both worlds for me!

I'm 5'11" and my FH is 6'3" and I didn't have any trouble dress shopping. Actually they still have to hem my dress a little bit. I decided to wear flats to be more comfortable but I know I could have worn a heal and then at that point the dress wouldn't have to be hemmed that much.

Not quite as tall but you should be able to order dresses in extra length.

As for heels, wear what you want, FH is only about 1-2 inches taller than me and im wearing 4.5 inch heels because I love them! He doesnt care at all, but I am changing to flats for the reception though.

I'm 5'10". Some dress brands can be ordered in a "tall" length. I would have had to do so if I was wearing heels. I am wearing Kate Spade Keds.

I personally have long legs and a long torso, so some styles of dresses just didn't look right on me (i.e mermaids). As for being taller than FH, he is 6'2", so I don't have to worry about that, but a good photographer can position you so it's not blatantly obvious if you don't want it to be. We couldn't really do any "head on shoulder" engagement pictures because I'm tall.

Pros are that you don't have to get your dress hemmed!

Hello! I am 5'11 and was also worried about this. I had to order extra length for my dress that came to $250 extra. The designer of my dress recommends extra length for anyone over 5'7. I am wearing flats on my wedding day-- 1) because my FH is not much taller than I and 2) I just don't feel like wearing heels all day. But when trying dresses on, the samples tend to be a bit longer anyways so when I was trying on, none of them looked too short.

I'm 5'10". My dress is pretty long, so no issues there or having to order a "long" dress which is nice. I'm going to be wearing flats because 1) FH is only about an inch taller than me 2) wedding is outdoors on grass 3) I never really wear anything with a heel, so I don't want to stand all day and have the added pain of being in a heel.

I'm only 5'9", but I'm having to have several inches of my dress hemmed. Also wearing flats. I was worried about finding flats for big feet (size 12), but I found mine on amazon and absolutely love them.

I'm 5'8" so not as tall as you, but I plan on wearing flats because nobody is going to need to see my feet and if I wear heels I know I'll really only be attracted to the 4" ones. I think I'd rathe be comfortable and not taller than my FH. For dress shopping, I feel like you'll be able to find a dress that is long enough. All of the dresses I've tried were very long and could definitely have worked with 4" heels which would make me your height. If you need to, you could always add extra length, but if you're not planning to wear heels, I think you'll be fine.

Also, I think wedding dresses of all styles will look good on you. Model height tends to pull off many different styles, so try on anything you like!

I'm not super tall (5'9"), but with 3" heels in my MoriLee dress, I didn't need any hemming. In fact, it was a perfect length!

I'm 5'7. Average height, but FH is about half an inch shorter than me so I am wearing flats. A plus is that I don't have to worry about tripping.

5'11". My dress is the perfect length with like 2" heels. It has been impossible so far to find heels that are cute in that heel height. Mostly they are super nerdy.

I'm 5'9", DH is 5'11" if he doesn't slouch. I wore 3 inch heels and my dress was the perfect length, no hem needed. I didn't worry about the likelihood of being taller than DH, bc he doesn't mind and thinks I'm gorgeous even if he has to look up (he's obviously biased). In any case, I think most men's dress shoes give a little lift unintentionally bc he seemed a little taller than me in pics and he had his regular dress shoes on.

I think the major pro in being a tall bride is presence. Maybe it's just my opinion but I think we automatically look very mature and even quite regal. I never had to worry about a dress dominating or swallowing me, meaning you can pick basically any style you want.

Go on with your tall self Smiley winking

I'm 6'1 and only ran into two things while dress shopping. The first was the length of the dress. They do have extended lengths but it is something that you will pay extra for. I would have had to pay a fee for the extra length which was a standard 5 inches added to the dress and then pay for them to cut most of that off later during alterations. Luckily, I fold a dress that was a trumpet style with tons of layers at the bottom and the dress was the perfect length for me! My bridal shop also offered to do a hollow to hem length where they would make the dress the exact length that I needed it and I would only pay a fee once and just pray to God they measured right.

The other issue was shoes. I am the exact same height, if not an inch taller than him. Luckily, I am wearing flats because I wanted to be comfortable the entire day.

I'm 6' and only one dress I tried on seemed a little short, all the rest would have been fine / needed a hem. If you want to wear tall heels, then you'll likely need extra length added on.

Hello! I am 6’2” and wear a 5/6 in street sizes. I tried on about 30 dresses and only ONE was too short. I will say some of the “lowbacks” definitely didn’t look as low on me as they would have on a shorter person. I honestly felt good in everything I tried on. I’m opting to wear flats because I don’t really wear heels.
When I’m a bridesmaid, it’s a completely different story. It’s hard to find dresses that hit the floor or don’t like too short on me.
Shoes haven’t been too much of a struggle because I’m tall. My main concern is that the tops of the shoes don’t snag my dress. Hope this helps!

I am 5'9" and just at little taller than my FH. I will wear flats, which is more comfortable anyway.
