Talking with a florist for the first time

WeDoInJune, on July 17, 2017 at 4:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So I haven't posted in ages since the wedding got postponed but I'm slowly creeping back into planning mode. I am doing a phone appointment since my schedule is so awful right now but I don't know the first thing about anything floral. My colors are plum and white. I only need flowers for bouquets and for the GM (I don't remember how to spell that word lmao) so, what should I ask? What should I know? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

The pic is one I really like, but not sure what any of it is. I know it's not plum though. I was thinking of having the BM and GM flowers being white and FH and I having plum

I don't know anything about flowers either, but my florist totally guided the appointment. she asked me about things i hadn't even considered (pew decorations/toss bouquet/flower crowns, etc.) i had specific colors in mind and showed her some pinterest photos i liked, and she thought of ideas of particular flowers that would match my vision and then showed me photos of those flowers. we basically talked through the ceremony, reception, and wedding party to figure out what sort of decorations and bouquets we wanted.

All I keep hearing is that flowers are way more expensive than you'd expect. I am SO not looking forward to dealing with that. Good luck to you.

I really don't want to spend any more than I have to on flowers. But, I don't want fake ones, so I gotta pay what I gotta pay lol

I didn't have any ideas about flowers either. My first call with my florist was to talk about what kind of arrangements I was looking for, but not about exact flowers yet. They also asked if I had wedding colors or flower colors in mind.

I set a date for a face to face appointment. By that time, I had looked through his gallery and Pinterest and I had a pretty good idea of they styles I liked and things I didn't like. I still didn't know about specific flowers. But, we went through some more pictures together and he put together something wonderful.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know much about flowers haha. Good to know that it is manageable to work with a florist if I have no knowledge

You should have a set budget in mind when you speak with the florist. The florist can tell you what will fit into that budget. The picasso calla lilies in the picture you posted are one of the more expensive flowers, as are peonies, hydrangea, gardenias, magnolias, and most orchids. Carnations, some roses, stock flowers, snapdragon, baby's breath, daisies, and dahlias tend to be more affordable flowers. Also, the white variation of flowers tend to be less expensive than the same flower with color. I would suggest you go to the fifty flowers website to get an idea of the types of flowers that are out there and the difference in cost per stem of the flowers you like. You can even pick your wedding colors, and the site will show you the flowers that come in that color. Keep in mind that this website is for bulk wholesale, so the actual "per stem" prices of your flowers likely will be higher.
