Taking to long to respond/reply

Nicole, on July 17, 2019 at 4:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
What is the average response time that you wait from a sales manager or consultant? I know that mine has been out of town, but we are wanting to sign this contract and get questions answered so that we can work with our other vendors. Is waiting to hear back more than 1 or 2 business days after an email or phone call too long? At what point do I look at another sales consultant?

Honestly, if you know your consultant has been out of town, I would give them a few more days. They may still be on vacation and trying to enjoy their own family. They have lives too. If you know they are back in town, give them another day or so to catch up on their emails, they may have just not gotten to yours yet.

Actually, they were on vacation and got back last week. They had two days off this week and came back from her regular days off this week.

I don’t know if the vacation plays into it, perhaps it does, but even so- for general working week- if someone is taking more than 2 or 3 business days to return phone calls and emails, do you recommend trying to switch?

There are lots of discussions on this topic. When I was first researching vendors, and trying to get pricing/quotes, if a business didn't respond within 3 or 4 business days, I moved on to the next. But once I picked certain vendors (venue, photographer), then I gave them a bit longer, as I had already decided on them, and wanted to get my contracts signed, etc. So, I guess what I'm saying is that lots of us have had this kind of issue with some vendors. I don't know this salesperson you are trying to reach, but maybe this is how he/she operates. Some vendors take a long time to respond, for whatever reason.

Also, I know when I come back from vacation and/or days off, it takes DAYS to get through all of the emails that came in when I was off. So, a few more days wouldn't be unheard of.

Is this the coordinator for your venue? If so, and if this is the venue you and FH really want, then I would wait a few more days, or switch up the method of contact. If you've been emailing, try a phone call next. Even if you get voicemail, at least you can leave a message. Some people respond better to that method than email.

My general rule of thumb is exactly one week, then I send a follow-up message. If they don't reply to the second message within another week, then ditch them.
