Take home centerpieces?

Allison, on May 16, 2014 at 8:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We have floral centerpieces. I want to keep vases to resell. I know some guests like to take the flowrts home, which I am okay with but want centerpieces left.

2 questions:

1)what are you doing with your floral centerpieces?

2) would it be overly tacky to put a plastic cup and note on table to say please take flowers but leave centerpiece.

Thanks WW ladies (and gents)

I'm following this because I want to resell my vases too. The only thing that I could think to do was have the DJ make an announcement.

We are having 3 lanterns and 4 small vases per table, plus votives at 10 tables. I don't mind if people take the small vases and flowers but not the lanterns since I'm planning on selling them later. I don't think people take items as much due to a lot of people renting items like vases and such. I know it used to be more customary but I think that has changed with the wedding planning and rental options.

My big tall hurricane candle holders actually belong to the venue. They can take the votive holders though. I will have 230 or so of them.

We didn't have anyone take our centerpieces - although I was begging people to because I didn't want to bring them home!

Do people take centerpieces home with them without asking?

I am definitely letting guests who want them take them home.

@kayla.p I really like the idea of bringing them to a hospital or care home. I might have to steal that from you

Our centerpieces are costing less than $3 a table. Seriously... Take them if you wish.

I've never heard of this, but my best friend swears it's tradition that you put one card/ piece of paper under a place setting at each table, and that person gets to make home the centerpiece. I guess you would have the DJ announce it, and each card could have a note asking that they leave the vases. I've also been to weddings where the venue staff polices guests taking flowers too early or too many.

The last wedding i went to someone went around while we were eating, made sure everything was fine with dinner and casually mentioned oh after the party please feel free to take flowers home but please leave the bottles (the flowers were in glass bottle things) everyone was fine with it!

One of the catering & event planer staff is going to take the flowers from the vase and pass one to each guests. I thought it was a nice gesture. Maybe one of your staffs or someone can assist in ensuring that the guests receive one. Or like someone had previously mention, having a DJ to make announcement is a good idea too. I plan on taking the remaining flowers to the hospitals and churches.

I found these adorable individual vases that I will set at each place setting for people to take if they'd like. The other flowers can be taken as well since they are only in dollar store vases but I hope nobody messes with the candle holders. They are in loan from a friend.
