Tails or not?

Olivia, on August 10, 2014 at 1:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I picked my dress without much trouble. But I am having a little more trouble deciding on my groom's attire. He really doesn't care one way or another so it's up to me. I never thought I wanted tails for him because I thought the proportions would look odd and too old fashioned, but I think I really like it! Plus with out 1930's theme it makes sense. Should I go old fashioned? Or stay modern and ditch the tails? I posted the tails first and the rest in the comments. (Please ignore the jeans!)

I think tails are more for a morning/day wedding.

no tails would be more formal for an evening wedding, thats just my thought.

BUT it does go with you're theme, if you think you won't have regrets with the tails, go for it! Smiley smile

I love men in tails. If it fits your theme, go for it.

Tails are the most formal, traditionally worn during super evening weddings. My wedding is very formal at 6 pm so at least the white tie is necessary for the groom.

Mine wore a cutaway coats with ascots- traditional morning-coat style (appropriate for before 6pm weddings). I love cutaways and tails.

Morning dress at weddings you still see over here - anytime before 7 you are okay

    Evening dress are after 7

    Both have 'tails'

However in the complex world of etiquette black tie is less formal than white tie (which is what the Brits call evening dress) and isn't a tailcoat

@Mallory Abroad, so no tails with the white tie? I have specified my wedding as formal. I want my groom to stand apart from the other men as the most formally dressed (as I will be in the most formal dress as well). I want appropriate attire for everyone as well as something that looks good. It's all so complicated!

I say tail! It fits your theme, he'll stand out (like you want), and it goes with your dress

    No

The order is black tie then white (full evening dress)

Black has no tails, full evening is tails.

With the woman full evening (white) has to be a long dress with black tie it is more accepted to wear a cocktail dress you never wear cocktail to full evening. Ever!

I really like the tails! Does he have a preference? Let him pick if you don't care either way.

Thank ya'll all for your help and suggestions! I think I will go with the tails just for my groom. (His mom likes it on him and so does my dad.) So we'll make our families happy, yay!

I always love a man in tails!! FH didn't want them because he didn't want to look like a penguin, but they're so dapper!

If you want the tails look, but are getting married in the afternoon - go with a morning suit. If it's an evening wedding, tails are pretty much as formal as you can get.
