Taffeta vs. Satin

Bethany, on July 13, 2010 at 2:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

So here is my dilemma. My wedding gown is a beautiful white matte satin maggie sottero with lots of sparkle and pearl accents. I want my bridesmaids in an indigo/bright navy/midnight blue shade. I started looking for satin but I have yet to find the right shade in satin. Taffeta seems to hit the nail on the head and the indigo shade of most designers is perfect! I found a really elegant style, which works since I'm having an evening wedding at a beautifully elegant chapel. Input?

Whoops! The dress I like in the first pic is the one on the right. It would be in indigo taffeta.

The second dress is matte satin. It would be in fresh blue.

Probably #2 would look better on most body types.

    But they are both gorgeous.

I actually prefer #1 though because it looks more retro modern to me and I like the manufacturer and design overall.

Looks good to me! You don't need to match fabrics, as long as they are similar in formality.

If you did want to match fabrics though they have very similar gowns at www.impressionbridal.com and most are satin...The dresses you have choosen are very nice though

For wedding dresses, I ususally think taffeta looks like a shower curtin. but for bridesmaids dresses I think it looks good :]

The only color bridesmaids dresses that I found that matched happened to be satin & were only 60 bucks each :]

My girls actually tried on the dress on the left by impressions. i want Teal for my wedding and the color swatch for those taffeta style dresses make some colors look irridescent which i was not too crazy about. it made the color look purply in some lights so i am worried about pictures and how the dress will look. unfortunately none of the bridal shops i went to had any sample dresses in the color i want so i just had to base it off the swatch. now we are looking for a satin gown. i am jsut trying to find a dress with a lot of rouching because i have girls of different sizes. that seems to be most flattering for everyone!

There is nothing that says that you and your BM have to be int he same material and if there is...I screwed up BIG time. My dress is a Maggie dress that is all lace and my BM are in a Mori Lee taffeta dress.
