Tacos for dinner?

Cynthia, on March 21, 2020 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 18
Hello, As we are trying to cut cost. What would you think of Mexican tacos with rice and beans for dinner at a wedding? Instead of the usual? We would do a buffet style and have the meat get cut up in front of you so it's nice and fresh. Since my family is Mexican I was thinking it would be no big deal. But at the same time I know my future mother in law is not a big fan of Mexican food. My fiance never had Mexican food before we met.

Thoughts please?

If your wedding is casual, then it's fine! Just get catered for ease, food safety, and nice presentation.

We’re considering doing a taco bar! I think it’s a great idea personally and the family and friends I’ve talked to about it thought it was great too. We were going to give multiple options for meat/toppings/etc. and have chips and salsa/queso. I think it would be perfect!

Yes!! This but instead I'd do serving stations of different meats. Like chicken, carne asada, Al Pastor and carnitas. That's 4 different kinds of meats to choose from. I kind of want the street taco vibe.

That sounds delicious and fun! You could always have a special meal for your FMIL if you know she won’t like it? Just make sure to have a vegetarian option as well. And keep in mind this would have to be a more casual event (like you can’t ask people to wear formal attire or anything lol)

    Sounds fantastic!

My only worry would be vegans/vegetarians, so you might want to make sure you have alternatives for dietary needs.

My wedding is *hopefully* may 9 and we are doing a taco bar! My nana asked if we were choosing it due to it being cheaper and if so she thought she might be able to help out to get better option and I was like uh no! I love tacos! It’s your day and your food so really as long as you have all the topping she can make a “salad” and everyone can be happy!

I think it's ana amazing idea! My fiances famioy and mine are the same. My family side if Carribean while his is down right Classic southern. But a buffet gives options for picky eaters!. And the great thing about buffets is it can have anything you both want or want to try with loved ones ❤

It’s easy to do a taco bar and I think that’s a great idea! All you need is beans that aren’t cooked in lard to make it vegan friendly (since people said that’s a hard option for vegans/vegetarians) and make sure the tortillas don’t have lard.
I find it really odd that he had never had Mexican food before he met you- I’m sure his mom will be able to make a plate out of toppings- you could talk to her and see if she wants a separate meal. What does your fh think?

You could make a taco bar fun with ground beef or steak, chicken, etc. Can you add tamales or empanadas? I’d want a taco salad so even offer the taco shells. Yummy!

Sounds good. Most people do enjoy them and local restaurants cater. You can always have a separate plate for her.

I love the idea I would def. have lettuce just in case someone cant have tortilla they can have taco salad. I live the empanadas /chips idea as well more variety and empanadas are more filling.
