Taco Bar

Brittany, on April 23, 2018 at 8:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19
How many pounds of beef/chicken would I need to feed 100 people? I’m considering a taco bar with everything for tacos that you imagine alone with a chips and salsa bar. But I have no idea how much meat I would need. Any idea?? Thanks!

I know everyone is about to say this, but I think you need a caterer.
I'm not against self-catering as a rule but when you don't have basic information like that it tells me that you don't have experience working on that scale. You do not want your first experience to be your wedding day. Tacos seem easy but *anything* for 100 is tough.
I'll bet you have a nice Mexican restaurant nearby that can put together what you want for a reasonable price.

I considered getting the meat and possibly chips and salsa from my favorite Mexican restaurant. Just didn’t know if they would know how much meat would be needed. Thanks!!!

I think rule of thumb is a quarter pound per person minimum. I’d play with the number depending on options maybe like half pound per person?

I’m trying to take into account that most people are going to eat more than one taco. Half pound per person would give everyone enough wiggle room to eat more than just a couple. Thanks!!

They absolutely know! Way better than us. I'm always intimidated before I make the call, but once I do I realize how easy it is. They want to help you.

Your caterer will make sure you have enough based on the final head count. : )

I am doing a taco bar and my caterer told me for 150 people to have 25lbs of beef and chicken-so 50lbs. We decided to go with 30lbs of each to be extra safe!

We're doing a taco bar also but using a caterer. We had to go with our venues catering otherwise I would have just gotten chipotle! 😂😍

Every Mexican place has catered parties before... just tell them how many guests you’ll be expecting.

You would estimate how many ounces of meat go in each taco, probably 2.

Then the average tacos each person would eat. You're probably at 3 or 4 go heavy at 4.

Multiply that together times 100. Decide by 16, and you will require 50lbs of meat.

A licensed, professional caterer will know exactly how much food to prepare for you when you give them your guest count.

You hire a caterer who takes care of those concerns.

Why not have the Mexican restaurant provide everything you need? Tortillas, cheese, guac, etc. Have them do all the catering really...tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, taquitos...mmmmm that would be a delicious spread!!!
