Tacky to fill in names on RSVP?

2ndTime, on May 14, 2017 at 11:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I really want to avoid people inviting others who aren't invited on the outside of the invitation. Is it tacky to fill in the "M_________" line for guests on the RSVP card? I only have 40 guests so this wouldn't take me long to do.

Yes, that's my fear! Or that they will bring their kids (when not invited).

I numbered my RSVP'S just in case we got some back without names! It definitely came in handy! I was worried about unexpected guest but I'm not anymore stressing out about it anymore because they won't have a seat or a plate soooo......

Yeah I would put something because I got a few weird responses like someone wrote someone else's name with theirs or someone just put the number 4 when their invitation was addressed to one person. All awkward phone calls that have to be made...

I don't think it is a breach of etiquette to do so, but it will not stop rude people from being rude. They can always write "and guest" or "plus 3 kids" .

The wording "we have reserved 2 seats in your honor" can also backfire if one of the invited guests can't make it. You have just given them carte blanche to bring someone else.
