Tacky Save the dates

Kenyatta, on February 9, 2017 at 2:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

I'm a destination bride. I'm trying to cut costs anywhere I can. I wanted save the date magnets but opted for save the date cards with a matte finish. Is it tacky to buy magnets (simple like a circle magnet used on dry erase boards or maybe even a palm tree shaped magnet) and mail it with the save the date?

Not at all! I had a friend do that and I didn't think it was tacky. I think they just glued the magnets on.

Thanks for your advice ladies! My only concern was that sense I won't be getting the magnets large enough to glue io, that some guests may use the magnet but toss the card lol. Maybe I'm overly paranoid.

That is a great idea! I would not find it tacky either.

I wouldn't find it tacky - but I don't think it's necessary. I'd save your time/money. People who put stuff like that on the fridge will have plenty of magnets. People, like me, who don't will just toss the magnet away.

Destination bride here too! I had a couple free magnet offers from Shutterfly. The BP and immediate family got STD magnets and cards, while the remainder of the guests got cards only. Everyone loved what was received; those who didn't get magnets didn't miss them. We sent them out 12 months in advance. (Check out Staples, 100 postcards for $20)

I don't think it's necessary either. I have tons of magnets at my house. I'd have one for your STD!

Thank you ladies for the advice! I'm torn now that you ladies mention that there would be those who have magnets on their fridge if they use them. Our date is April 14, 2018. I got my save the dates on sale at vistaprint. 150 for 41$ which includes 5 day shipping.

I did this - many people said they loved that they could just slap it on the fridge!

I bought sheets of magnets for like $10 and cut them into 1" by 2" sections and placed two on the back, it was easy and cheap.

I think it's great! I personally don't even use magnets on my fridge so a free one would be welcome lol it would hold your save the date!

I don't think I'd waste the time or money on adding magnets on it. I also wanted magnets, but I decided against them because there was a sale at vistaprint(surprise) that was too good to pass up. Basically everyone who puts anything on their fridge already has magnets, and if they don't then they probably won't put it on the fridge anyway. Spend your money on something more valuable.

My sister did a library card save the date, with an "overdue" stamped on it. She bought a roll of those sticky back magnets and just slapped them on the top of each STD. EVERYONE loved them and thought it was adorable.

Honestly, I don't think the magnets are necessary. My save the dates were just postcards and we received tons of compliments on them.

If you're trying to cut costs, I wouldn't worry about the magnets. It will add to the cost and might add to the postage needed depending how heavy they are. And, if I got something like tgat, I would toss the magnets anyways. We don't have anywhere to stick them. Everything gets put in the calendar and cards stored in the office until after the event.
