Tacky or no?

Cassi, on September 18, 2019 at 3:06 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 60

Quite curious, what are some thing you refuse to have at your wedding decoration wise? Cheap doesn't necessarily mean tacky. I'm all about the DIY so I have done a lot of DIY decor but I'm curious what everyone is using as like filler decorations?

Backdrops?

Lanterns?

Balloons?

The paper bells?

I want to do some additional decorations besides just signs but don't want anything to look tacky or thrown together. Just trying to get ideas! Pictures are a bonus! Thanks!

We are not really decorating. Our venue is beautiful without anything. We are doing center pieces and some signs and things like that but other then that we are not doing anything. The ceremony is 15min and going to be outside. We are not doing anything with that except a few homemade bows for some of the chairs.

Those bows are beautiful! Smiley love do you have instructions for how you made that? lol I'd love to have that on FH and I's chairs!

Yeah our venue is beautiful its a rustic looking barn venue but I want to dress it up a little because its a very versatile space I don't want people to think of it any less weddingy (if that makes sense) I could be completely over reacting too ahha.

Heres the inside of our venue set up with someone elses wedding.

I don't lol my grandma is making them for me. Love the barn! Ours is a barn too. Maybe whatever you do for centerpieces you could incorporate on the pillars, like flower garland or something that matches. I Like it without anything though too! Here's a pic of our barn set up for a different wedding.. it is two floors but we are only using the first floor for dancing and dining and then there are two lounge areas upstairs that overlook the first floor. Our venue is also pre-decorated for the season (flowers outside, garland or whatever inside kind of thing) and out caterer is bringing some rustic stuff to decorate the buffet tables with that they have. Maybe ask your venue if they have anything you can use that they use or recommend/have seen other people do.

I’m not a big fan of any decorations that would typically be considered birthday party decor like balloons or streamers. I also think mason jars, burlap, and lace have been super overdone. Your venue is beautiful on its own. Have you considered string lights or drapery?

I didn't want any fake flowers. Personally, I don't like the look of them and love real flowers. I didn't want burlap, even though we had a lot of country things. I didn't want mason jars either or anything plastic (silverware, plates, etc.). Not necessarily because they were "tacky" they just weren't the tone we were wanting.

Fabric draping the side of the chairs at the ceremony. I love drapery everywhere else but something about it on the sides of the chairs gets me! I think cause so many people are touching it, it doesn’t look nearly as put together as it should

Those big stupid bells for sure. Why of why do they have to be that crinkly paper? What’s wrong with real bells?
I also hate burlap because it makes me itchy.
Finally I don’t hate the color silver at all but I didn’t want it anywhere in the wedding, even our chafing dishes are copper and our flatware is gold.

Yeah i definitely agree with the birthday decor!

Thanks, I love my venue was just looking for something.. not sure what lol.

I can't do string lights per venue rules but I did consider drapery. It was so expensive though!

I wanted real flowers but its a destination wedding and the logistics behind working with the florists and delivery of them to the rural area it was just too much so opted for fake flowers that I could just pack up with me. I have no regrets there though. i actually really love my sola wood flowers and all my girls want to keep their bouquets! As a bonus I spent less than $300 on everything with lots of extras!

We had a backdrop for our band. We also had large floor lanterns on either side of our sweetheart table. For me, I really didn't want to use any fake flowers so worked with my florist to keep everything within my budget.

We are limited with how we can decorate. We aren't allowed to attach anything to walls, not allowed to tape stuff. I have two lanterns, square glass candleholders, flower petals, silver and purple gems for the candle holders, and silver flamless candles to go in them. I want a backdrop, just not sure it's in the budget I would love balloons, can't afford them. No paper bells, don't mind them, just no way to attach them.

Personally? Anything un-natural isn't my jam and I would probably consider more-so on the tacky side. That includes anything fake/faux, paper, etc. If it can be bought at Party City, it's probably a no from me. A wedding is very different from a regular old birthday party, if you know what I mean.

We didn't decorate with anything filler. Our space was very plain but after we set up the tables and chairs, the florals on the tables and a few extras on some side tables, we put a few pictures of us around the venue and called it a day. The DJ brought some lighting that also enhanced the space. We were on a tighter budget, but to me paper bells scream 90's wedding and/or cheap.

I’m not a fan of flowers so there will be very few traditional flowers. My mother calls the flowers I like “weeds on the side of the road.” I’m also debating on a bouquet unless I can incorporate something not so floral.
