Tables of 5 or 9

ThatGirl, on December 19, 2018 at 9:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
So we are having what I consider to be a pretty small wedding, 56 attending total, including FH, myself, and the bridal party. It's exactly the size we wanted and I am really happy about it, but I will say that some of the RSVPs didn't fall where I expected if I am going to be honest... meaning there are some people coming I thought might decline, and vice versa... which is all good - if EVERYONE we invited had come, it would have been great too...

But it leaves me trying to figure out seating... some of the tables were super simple... others not so much... our plan was to have 8 people per table as our standard, but because of some of the rsvps falling where they did we are faced with either having two tables of 5, which I feel will be a bit awkward, or eliminating a table, rearranging some folks and having 2 tables of 9 instead. The venue assures us that up to 10 can sit at a table but I don't want people to be crowded...

Can anyone not so close to this shed some actual reason on this for me? Please and thank you!

I think 9 would be too many people at one table.

I think it depends on the people. I had 9 of my college friends (everyone literally spent every weekend together) at one table and it was fine! However, if it’s larger people or people that don’t know each other well etc etc it might be too many.

Adding that if it’s anyone with mobility problems (for me that was our grandparents) I also wouldn’t put 9 people at the table.

I think I would opt for 2 tables of 9, as long as you do it strategically. Most round tables can sit up to 10, but maxing it out makes things a bit tight. I feel that 8 is the perfect number, but having a couple with 9 isn’t a big deal. I feel it’s better than the alternative. Tables with 5 would be half empty and could be kinda awkward.

Just curious - any way you can do banquet tables? Asking because I have 30 people, and since it's an intimate feeling, I keep thinking about doing a more family table type of style instead of rounds. That way you could do 8' long tables, 4 people on each side.

Also.. what are the sizes of these round tables if you do 5 or 9 people? That makes a big difference.

9 at a table should be fine if the venue says they seat up to 10. I think it would be better to be just slightly more cramped than other guests as opposed to sitting at half-empty tables.

We are doing a mixture of table sizes & shapes. It's easier for us, for seating people together in the same family or friend groups (that are all different sizes).
